Arturia AudioFuse x8 IN/OUT

I’ve just ordered the Audiofuse X8 IN to expand my Push 3SA. Does anyone know if you can still use the two regular inputs if you’re using ADAT?

Also, I’m new to ADAT. Can I just use a regular optical cable (which I have one spare) or do I need to order a specific type of cable for ADAT?

Thanks!

I’m pretty sure I’ve just used a regular optical cable when I have used adat. If it’s an optical cable that fits in the port it should work.

FWIW I just ordered a cheapo generic optical cable on Amazon and it worked fine.

To answer my own question, yes you can

If you ever find yourself needing a more robust optical cable, Supra has some excellent ones that are very robust. I swear by them and use them for all my ADAT connections, although they aren’t cheap

ADAT is wonderful in the sense that it is practically immune to ground issues, the connection being light based and that

The only issues I’m having with the Push3SA and Audiofuse x8 IN combo is that I get audio crackles unless I set the Audiofuse to Internal sync and the Push3SA clock source to ADAT IN. This works fine except everytime I turn my Push on it reverts to internal clock source. Does anyone know how I can make it remember the clock source setting?

I’m considering getting an x8 IN and I’m wondering if it gets hot? I’d like to put it into my 2U rack with the Apollo x8 taking the bottom half, and I’m curious about the thermal situation as the Apollo gets quite hot already

Hmm.
If the Apollo gets ‘quite hot’ I’d be concerned about it.

I have my x8 IN below a MOTU Ultralite Mk5.
The x8 and Ultralite get to about the same temperature, which I’d call ‘safely warm’ when they’re sitting standalone with nothing on them.

When combined (x8 under Ultralite), neither one gets actually hot (and in fact barely warmer than when they’re not stacked) but they’re just inside a little open-backed bookshelf with an inch of space on either side also being free-air. And I still might get a small fan for them.

In a mostly-sealed environment like a rack (if it’s that kind of rack), I’d really be quite nervous.

I’m not sure about hot audio interfaces in racks really, unless there’s a fan.

I have a MOTU 828 that gets near to what I’d consider hot, and I leave it standalone for this reason. I would NOT put the 828 and the x8 IN inside a mostly closed 2U rack/case without a fan and in a well-cooled room.
