Arkestra - Audio reactive visuals with Ableton Link for macOS

I’m the solo dev and founder behind Arkestra (https://www.arkestra.app) for real time visuals on macOS. It has AuV3 integration and today I also released Ableton Link support.

It’s really easy to just hook an LFO to the beat and get the visuals connected with the tempo. I did a little showcase here:

The free version doesn’t include LINK but that’s basically the only limitation apart from syphon & fullscreen. So feel free to grab it and try it out.

If you have any feedback or feature requests, or did something with it, feel free to share in the thread. I’m very curious :relaxed::pray:

Thanks!

nice and easy to get running for a video neophyte

I whipped this up in like 15 minutes … good enough for me :stuck_out_tongue:

So nice to have the LFO’s synced

Gonna have to take a look at this later.

Have to say that I’m a bit put off by the immediate “log in” requirement, even if it says you don’t use the data … it’s doesn’t feel right.

So yes, I will of course create a login to check it out, might even buy a license … but still … grr.

Is there an auV3 plugin in the free version, it doesn’t seem to be in the zip download?

I’ve got quite a lot of this feedback so I might just skip the log in for the future. It’s noted 🫡

The auv3 is in the app. You just need to open the standalone once and it’ll self register!

I’ve tried running it multiple times and restarting Ableton, it doesn’t show in my plugins anywhere. I’m on Mac OSX 13 if that has any bearing?

I saw your app on Reddit and decided to give it a go. I’m not a VJ but I like to play around with stuff like Cathodemer and now this.

The app is mostly very easy to grasp and runs fine on my 2021 14” MBP with M1 Pro. I might even buy a license, depending on how hard it is to record from the app once the functionality is unlocked. I haven’t looked into this yet.

Some things I’d love to see in the future:

  • Ability to change the track order using drag & drop instead of the arrow buttons
  • Ability to move a scaled LFO zone (or any other scaled parameter) instead of having to move the start & end points.
  • Refined controls for the filters in audio section: a visible frequency scale, slope selection, Q adjustment…
  • Filters per track, or maybe even audio input per track

MacOS 13 should be fine. Try placing the app in Applications. If you don’t get it to work email me on isak@rhythmicvisions.io and I’ll try to debug it with you. It should work out of the box

Thanks for a clear and straight forward review! Very helpful! I’ll add all your requests to the backlog, I think they all make sense.

I usually record with Syphon Recorder. It’s super easy to use and you can easily adjust your codec settings etc. So it’ll definitely do the job if you go down that road

Awesome! Love what you put out, happy to see more things as you explore the app.

I agree with the LFOs, it’s really nice to build with them in sync. I’m looking to add some more shapes in the future too. Maybe a sequencer option as well…

That’s really nice to hear. Sometimes when people make software for themselves, they might be blind to UI issues and possibilities, since the software or workflow is already tailored to their specific needs.
Maintaining an app is a fine line between your vision and what the users want.

No doubt it works but I’m unfamiliar with it so I’ll have to look into it before committing. Sounds promising though.

Yes I totally agree. It’s been a very interesting trip building Arkestra and listening in on the feedback and prioritizing/curating. Ableton Link was a feature I didn’t think of but @josephhh and a few other were requesting, and it makes so much sense upon implementing.

I’m also thinking that adding a sequencer as a mod source per parameter could be a cool feature…

Sequencer would be sweet (polymeters?)

Also a smoothed random !

It’s coming now!
