Exactly my experience here.
Interesting that you bring in the cultural angle⦠I often wonder how people of different cultural backgrounds have miscommunications online. We Dutch people are known for being direct up to the point where other people think itās rude, whereas Dutch people will more likely feel like forced politeness is dishonest and rude.
As someone wrote above: I feel like a bit of serious discussion on forums is valuable as long as it doesnāt get nasty. From a Dutch perspective the notion you shouldnāt discuss sensitive topics is very American, where everything seems to be divided into 2 opposing camps and a lot of nuance is lost because of it.
Elektronauts for some reason feels very scandinavian in my perception (though this might just be my imagination) in the sense that most people here seem to have a positive, egalitarian and open attitude, arenāt into too much competitiveness, and generally mean well with others. I know most people here arenāt actually scandinavian and my characterization of scandinavian culture might be completely off , but the atmosphere on this forum is a breath of fresh air compared to some other fora.
I like here (good discussion, sort of interested in elektron gear at some point), lines (Norns is really cool), dogs on acid (dnb/jungle stuff), and sometimes modwiggler, which is a wealth of information but also very argumentative
Everything has its downside here and Iād like to totally withdraw myself at some point but still use all of them a lot, as the commentary is very interesting across the board. And I do learn some stuff.
I enjoy them all more than Instagram and Twitter and YouTube
Ok, then here“s also a link to a german synth forum:
There are also some really nice and skilled / specialized people.
But unfortunately it has not such a general nice vibe like here or in the audiobus forum.
Lotās of good info for german people, unfortunately often hidden by political off topic talk and people getting upset about nothing
I lurked on lines for a bit, not really my crowd. Feels a bit smug and proud of itself for some reason. A bit like the TV show Sex and the City. You know what I mean, like a bit like everyoneās putting on a bit of an act the whole time, like Instagram.
Tried modwiggler for about a day, didnāt like the layout, felt a bit like being back on Geocities, but not in a good way. Not much there for me now Iām a reformed addict.
Gearspace is like that teenager that thinks heās really cool and edgy because he got a shit daffy duck tattoo on Skegness market. Knows loads about FIFA though, so worth keeping up with.
I wish this forum didnāt give me so many ideas for things to buy, because otherwise itās my favorite place on the internet. Are there any communities with a similar vibe that are less gear-oriented, or perhaps focused on electronic music in general rather than its production?
Yeah, I totally get this.
This is my favourite synth space. I like the layout and the people. But I prefer the moderation style on Modwiggler. Not a big deal, just an observation.
To be fair, that is what Lines is for, and anything adjacent is a bonus.
Itās possibly also more interesting for members who visit more regularly and/or interact more there, as some areas (particularly involving personal experiences and potentially divisive topics, for instance) are often set to a level only visible to participants who have been active on the forum for a certain length of time.
I also like that the sale and trade areas are hidden from the general flow of posts, so if you want to look for offers and temptations, you have to actively seek them out.
Likewise, especially since mostly leaving Facebook a few years ago.
Exactly the same here! (you might have noticed )
I didnāt know that
Fun show, loses some of the charm on the later seasons tho.
Wait, you have to think about whatās right and wrong and how to be kind? Seems pretty easy to figure out.
I agree with this.
Yeah. Lines is monomeās ācommunityā (like this is Elektronās) and, by default, Mannequins.
I didnāt really understand that when I first joined, nor what Monome, Norns, the Grid etc etc were all about; now the Norns Shield is probably the device I use most for making music on a regular basis.
I agree with all this. And that new releases are rounded up into one thread (curtailing GAS quite a bit imo).
