I wish there was a way to remap the pads. Even if just on incoming MIDI. It’s easy to end up with for instance a synth on SD and a snare sound on CY and it’d be much more intuitive if you could always expect a snare sound to be on Pad 2 and so on.
wait, I thought you can just switch the midi channel in the midi setup, is it not working for incoming midi?
edit: I’ve just checked it and it works, just switch up the midi channels in the midi setup and you’ll have any track on any midi channel you want.
Unfortunately it’s a per-project setting so it doesn’t really solve the issue.
unless I’m misunderstanding something, midi channels setup is global, it’s not per project.
It’s per project. But I would need it to be per kit for it to solve the issue.
You just gave me an idea, I might just waste whole projects on single kits / variations on a single kit … and yes, it’s that important to me…
Prob more realistic since I have no clue how Elektron would even add what I want anyway
that’s definitely and option but you’re limited to 128 projects, so I guess followup idea would be more projects
This is a PERFECT example of why adding features like that is not as straightforward as it seems. Like you said, having freely assignable LFOs means that you can’t have presets with LFOs applied. I think I would prefer to have presets over freely assignable LFOs. It is these kind of usability improvements that people really take for granted on the new machines.
I haven’t used my MKII for MIDI stuff yet, so I’m curious:
How/why are you using MIDI coming into the RYTM?
This is my first hardware instrument, so I’m still trying to wrap my head around the intention behind using MIDI with it.
- External sequencing. In short more flexibility and also you get different (and interesting) behavior with CC messages than p-locks.
- Live play. The pads are a bit stiff, so I like to play with external pads or keyboard - the latter especially for chromatics.
I realized my idea isn’t going to work because while you can remap channels, you can’t remap the bottom 12 MIDI notes. I could try programming my smart MIDI cable, with the bottom 12 notes sending notes to individual channels 1-12. Only problem there is you lose the ability to set a default note on each track since sending a note above the bottom 12 overrides that. So basically it can’t be done.
Right on
If you get a chance, could you give an example of the difference in behavior for a cc message and a plock?
It depends on the parameter. Some parameters like pitch are smoothed almost like a global glide. Some are not responded to immediately so you get unexpected “glitches”. It’s not perfect but I’ve embraced it and besides it kind of can’t be perfect due to the nature of both MIDI and the analog engine.
I would love to be able to add different colours to the step buttons so you could clearly see patterns in a group in pattern select mode.
Same here. It would make euclidean sequencing much more useful. If mapped to something like a Faderfox, sequencing would be almost as quick (or even quicker) than with a T-1. Please, please, please.
we need R.STRT option on a Rytm to synchronise sample recording to pattern start, it’s simple feature and I can understand why it is not implemented on DT mk1, but Rytm should have it)
Start AR sequencer without sending out transport. I would implement this as holding [PAUSE] and pressing [PLAY] while [PAUSE] is being held. This would be really handy if using AR as master sequencer in a setup with additional sequencers downstream and would allow to focus on the AR without having to mute other instruments on the mixer. This could be incorporated into Elektron sequencers in addition to the existing SYNC config setting.
there should be a transport send setting in the sync section of the midi setup, not as immediate as you suggest but maybe worth a try in the meantime
i’d like a screen saver/stand-by mode if it prevented screen burn on my mk1
FILL RECORDING & PARAMETER LOCK HOLD (select multiple trigs to lock without holding down)
Fill recording would be so useful for performance . Could be activated by holding fill while entering live record mode. The recorded trigs would all automatically be assigned to the fill trig parameter until you left live recording. A very fast and fun way to create a drum fill.
I find the process of creating fills slow and when performing I tend not to bother. The fill could be lots of trigs over various pages or my fingers can’t reach /press all the trigs per track at once. And having to repeat this for every track. Not very creative.
Parameter lock hold
Another feature which could enable easier fill creation and much more could be a mode where the last trigs live recorded were ‘held’ per track, ready to be parameter locked. By held I mean it’s as if every trig you just performed per track is held down with your fingers. Think of the potential of holding multiple trigs across pages! You could complely change the sound /sample for what you’ve just performed.
Of course it would also be useful to manually hold trigs for whenever your fingers don’t reach and to free up a hand! And there could be clever features such as page mirroring - where you hold trigs on one page and any trigs in the same position on other pages are held.
