Android digitakt usb

Hi. Has anybody had any luck connecting Digitakt as audio device for Android phones since the new “class compliant” update. Am i missing something?

Hi!

I tried it 1000 times. I bought a Usb-B to USB-c cable, then it worked once; I sampled a YouTube vid. Second attempt it just did not work and it hasn’t worked since. Bought a new cable, a converter to use a third cable that worked on pc… No luck.

I have absolutely no clue why it worked the first time and hasn’t worked since. I updated both my Samsung and my Digitakt and browsed through settings such as USB configuration but to no prevail.

I want to record stuff on my Samsung and sample stuff from my Samsung. It’s a s10e so no old thing…

yeah that’s not an easy cable to find😂

I’m on s10 here and no luck using USB A to B lead with A to C converter

You need a special OTG cable for that.
A usb OTG cable has an extra pin connected on the phone side, without this pin the phone doesn’t know it has to act as a usb host. So with a normal charge cable the phone is just expecting a computer connection or a charger.

Aha. Sounds like exactly the info i needed. Thanks v much @DreamXcape

Thanks DreamXcape.

but the weird thing is that it worked once! I sampled a youtube vid with the USB-B to USB-C cable and that was the last time. hadn’t made any changes.

Now i even tried the normal USB-B to USB cable which works on PC with sampling and everything and add a USB-c converter but that didnt work neither.,

Ill check out the cable you’re suggesting.

Can you send an example?

I found one but it specifically states that the USB-C part is the Slave, where the USB part is the Host.
Now the USB part would go onto my USB to USB-B cable making the Digi the host.

USB-C is a little bit different.

For micro-USB(older phones and tablets), it’s almost impossible to find the right micro-USB to USB-B cable. Most OTG cables are micro-USB to USB-A(socket), which you extend with a standard USB cable for the connection to the DT.

For USB-C there are a lot of cables in existence with a USB-B at the other end.
But USB-C has so many options that finding the right cable could be very difficult. A wrong USB-C cable can make weird things happen.
So, while USB-C technically doesn’t have OTG, you can still search for USB-C OTG and find those adapter cables with a USB-A socket like the micro-USB ones.

I also want to make one thing very clear, because I read this many times already.

A device with a USB-B socket can NEVER be the host device without some major hardware changes, or some special hardware in the cable. A USB-B socket also does NOT deliver power.
No standards even exist to make this happen.

The only possible “double function” USB ports are the mobile versions: mini-USB, micro-USB and USB-C.

I just got my lead in the post. I can get it to send audio from the phone but unfortunately not record audio from digitakt to the phone. So i guess that’s the end of that

(BTW must remember to turn off overbridge in the settings)

Which cable are you using?

It still messes with my brain that it worked once with a standard USB-B to USB-c Cable.
during all my attempts after that one it connected to my samsung and instantly disconnected.

Im using a USB-B to USB cable in the meantime to sample from my PC but even tho i bought an USB to USB-c adapter for that cable it wont work with android.

Looking to buy a normal USB to USB-b cable with OTG now… hoping that the adapter will make sure that works with Adroid but I’m probably going to have to buy a special OTG converter piece for that as well.

Let me know when you figure things out! What cable have you gotten now?

Normal USB cables don’t have OTG, it’s the little adapters that have this.
But before you buy a cable, make sure your phone actually has OTG enabled by using an app like OTG Checker.

To make things a bit more clear:

For a phone with Micro-USB you need something like this:

For a phone with USB-C you need something like this:

Just use a normal USB cable to extend it.

Alternatively, you could use something like this when your phone has USB-C:

But as I said before, there is no guarantee this will work. This is the right cable for the newer laptops and macbooks though.

I’ve given up. Got a usb cable, specialised for audio. Udg it’s called. Then I bought an Otg adapter to convert it to usb-C. Now when I plug it into my phone, my phone won’t make any sounds. So it must be recognizing the usb. But the Digitakt is not getting any input!

Wow but when I switch my phone’s ringtone from silent to ring it does recognize the beep on the Digi?! I must be close.

Somewhere in your phone setup, you can switch to audio over usb. Sometimes it´s hidden in the developer folder.

Yeah I found usb config… But audio is not one of the options. I’m on a Samsung s10e.

It does get my ringtone confirmation bleep. It worked once. Not sure but I think it’s just not supported.

Sample the beep, make a banger beat

I got this cable from Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CQT3768

I go to Video, swipe down for external audio, and it works.

I am not sure about Audio specific programs, but for the built in camera it works great.

So it’s more of a config issue it seems since you are getting “behavior” of some kind.

Good luck to all :upside_down_face:
