doesn’t work when we actually needed it: plocking slices :\
Oh, bummer
I guess you can set the value and then p-lock it, but then you’ll have to go back to the previous value and it might be annoying.
Am I hallucinating or does SY Raw have less waveshapes on Rytm than on ST? I can’t find a square on Rytm.
You’re right. The Square wave is in the SY Chip.
I’ve noticed that, and it a a nice one with the PWM options for sure. Just found it a bit weird that SY Raw isn’t just ported, but I guess this compromise was needed to give us two new synth machines.
There is a square on the plastic or the sharp, not sure
Just thought it would be nice to have all the basic wave forms in SY Rae like on ST, so you don’t have to do workarounds with other machines and know this can be your go to machine for bass and synth lines. It’s not the end of the world but surprising, coming from ST and always using SY Raw for basses with squares there.
You could use the sample engine as third oscillator using a square waveform
Like I said, it’s not a big deal and Rytm has tons of workarounds or, maybe better word, alternatives. It would have just been nice and made things a bit easier and more straightforward if SY Raw had a square wave, it’s all I‘m saying. But the machine is so versatile and powerful that it more than makes up for that. I‘d say that Syntakt is clearly better at being a melodic synth as well, while Rytm is primarily a drum machine that also can be lots of other things.
I didn’t know you had a Rytm, do you?
Just re-bought one this week. Had it two years ago but didn’t like analog drums back then and wasn’t that interested in programming beats, so I sold it.
Really liked what it did to samples though and loved the interface. It made me come up with things that sounded totally different than what I made on any other Elektron.
I‘m more interested in programming beats nowadays (and learning it) and came to like analog drums, so I thought I‘d give it another shot. Especially since I‘m planning to sell OT, DT and Rev2 (and have already sold Nymphes).
Plan is to make beats on it standalone when I don’t feel like working on finishing material. I‘m really having fun with this so far. Having the pads and choke groups makes me play it very differently than I would play ST or DN. And I‘m so ready to dive more into performance mode and scenes as well as re-sampling this time.
What do you mean by “iterations” here?
If you save a kit, make changes, save as a new kit, then both kits will have your changes because you made them on the first kit and then saved a copy. It’s worked this way for many versions of the OS.
If you want to keep the first kit, you have to save the copy BEFORE you make any changes.
How do you calibrate tuning later if you don’t do it right after updating to firmware 1.7? I didn’t want to wait the 2.5 hours. If I go into SYSTEM / CALIBRATION, there are 2 options:
Factory Restore, and
Warm-up Calibration.
Is one of these equivalent to the 2.5 hour tuning calibration that it wants to do right after you update?
According to the manual, I would say Warmup Calibration. Be sure to be at room temperature, though. Turn it off for at least 20 minutes.
I didn’t do it straight away as i wanted to dive into the new features. But the thing is that once i did calibrate everything sounded different anyway. So waisted some time flapping about as after the process everything was tighter and sounded 100% better. Its better to run the calibration and then dive in…
Mine used to give me the option on boot up…
Yeah, it ended up giving me the option again on the next boot-up. It’s hard to get all ready to jam and then instead calibrate for 2.5 hours.
It is a must. You’ll feel the difference right away.
Should I be wary of downgrading to previous OS on my mk1?
It shouldn’t be a problem, right?
For the external sequencer can I automate midi parameters and also is there a lfo?
(Just like on Octa/Digitakt midi tracks)
nope, only notes, velocity ang length
