Yes, I had a maxed-out MD rig and I used it 5% of the time
Lost my job after a lengthy illness and it was the quickest way to make a good chunk of money
In the back of my mind I was always thinking having that rig was an unnecessary luxury so I’m happy to be back to basics with this MKII
great to hear that (it sounds like) things have turned around for you!
Let’s goooo looking good
Rule #3, which I just figured out today… “Don’t start any new hobbies”. If I wanna make progress on music I can’t start woodworking or sim racing despite my brain’s attempts to trick me into doing it
guess I shouldn’t get those bird-watching binoculars then…
Also don’t hang out on elektronauts too much.
Just had a weird pang of nostalgia for the old Elektron website, around the time the Machinedrum and Monomachine were “new” - anyone else remember that? The demos alone were fantastic.
I came later to the party, when those md/mnm boxes were shipping I had just bought an electrictribe mk2 which I sampled every Casio/yamaha that I could find - good times
I was unloading all of my gear and getting out of music for a bit during that time, but a couple years before that a Machinedrum was on my dream list.
haha one of my tracks is on the Monomachine demo page (and still plays!). I forgot about that.
the Odegaard demos on the MD page still sound incredible to me. that’s what sold me on the machine. @Nils is still the master of it, in my book.
I spent some time the other night, I was rewarded with crunchy, otherworldly, and almost vocal- like sounds. So much fun.
Ecliptical 3
Thanks for the links, brought back memories of buying internet time and visiting the Elektron site to drool over the Machinedrum.
For those who are interested in the unusual and otherworldly sounds of the Machinedrum – I have this project which is slow industrial beats and noise, all made with the Machinedrum as only source.
My favourite is probably track 4. It’s pretty crunchy as well
I do
I was drooling over the silver boxes too.
Got a MD, still there!
Do you remember Hector?
I have used the MD over the years as an IDM box, a live sampler for experimental improvisation, a supertight drummer… I don’t use it on a regular basis but can’t imagine letting it go.
Sounds good, thanks for sharing. This kind of sounds reminds me of when I as trying to get the maximum out of the MD synthesis… 'cause, really, I couldn’t live without the UW feature: so creative.

Here is an old track (sorry, poor mix/premaster) featuring the MDUW and a guitar played live (and processed y the MDUW). The bass and vocals were added afterwards.
Uncertain trip by Lawx&Mowk
Damn man, these are brilliant! Can I ask what FX you were using? Phenomenal range you pulled out of the MD.
Amazing and inspiring.
Nice album man. Very well sculpted sounds.
This is not typicaly MD identifiable work. You reach nice level of machines use.
Bought it to support your sound designer work.
Send you message about the fact that it would be cool if you choose to propose sysex at selling on your BC.
What about that idea ?
Oh wow thanks for your awesome feedback nauts! I’m very happy to see that you like it.
@Wilshire I have used Hologram Microcosm on track 1 and 2. Then on the following tracks I have used OT mainly for transitions i.e. recording the current beat and then slowly fading into the next Machinedrum pattern. I’m not sure that I used any other effect in OT. Then some EQing and limiting has been applied in post production.
@elenacortes thanks so much for purchasing the album! It means a LOT
I haven’t thought about selling the sysex. The MD Bank is a bit messy and I haven’t sold much on Bandcamp yet. I’ll think about it and in the meantime I’ll be happy to talk about the process if anyone is interested. There’s a dedicated thread here: Soarer Industries
I know I want to add more tracks to the album and your feedback has made me pretty excited to get started
so I got rid of my md in a px for some other gear…can’t post here anymore…see you elsewhere, big love
