Alien Earth

Does anyone know what synthesizers were used for the “Alien: Earth”soundtrack? There’s a very distinctive sound in the opening, is that a CS80? Is it a reference to Blade Runner?

Can you post an example of which specific parts?

here

it just triggers a blade runner feeling on me, and im guessing it must be an intentional reference… but maybe its just a chord with portamento

They prefer the term ‘artificial instruments’.

The composer has a ton of making-of footage on his Insta, you might dig through that and see. Although that video you posted sounds fully orchestral to me?

I would assume professional soundtrack composers are using high end software.
Sounds way too hi-fi to be a CS80 imo.

Enjoyed the soundtrack while watching the series, will be giving it a listen, it’s very well produced (the soundtrack). Don’t understand why they ruin it with the pop/rock song at the end of every episode tho :man_shrugging:

To my ears, the synth could be anything and doesn’t sound distinctive…I could definitely make it on the A4 mkII for example.

Oh god we hate that too. The selections are tonally awful. I blame Stranger Things.

I cringed when they played Stinkfist. Not because I don’t love Tool. But because the show isn’t worthy and the song felt totally out of place .:joy:

‘what became of subtlety?’

Babou Ceesay is amazing though. Did you know he’s from Middlesex? I’d never have guessed!

Is this show good? Or does it just muddy the water for the overarching franchise plotline?

Is it just the music that you enjoyed?

Tonverk.

The only downside is that they make the scientists in it the dumbest people in the room. Other than that I like it a lot, good tension, effects, lots of cool alien scenes, new aliens, etc.

It’s better than at least half of the Alien films.

Would love to watch behind the scenes of sound design and music composition.
If someone find good YouTube links drop them here.

Yeah, I agree about the music at the end, it feels totally out of place, and the effect it produces in me is like an annoying alarm clock waking me up from a dream.

And I think you’re right, it’s not the CS80 at all, not sure why it evoked Blade Runner so much in me… the soundtrack is great, tho

They could have done anything - something interesting, challenging, different - and they would have had everyone’s attention and patience, because this is Alien. But Alien Earth is beyond dirge. Shockingly bad.

I thought the sound design was very generic and safe. Lacks tension.

The music is also very safe and the music at the end always feels disjointed.

I am watching it though and I don’t hate it but I certainly don’t love it. Feels way off what it could and should be

It’s the best Alien anything since the original quadrilogy imho

It’s not over yet so TBD if they’ll stick the landing but so far I’ve found it to be incredible. Same showrunner as the Fargo and Legion shows.

Yeah best thing for the franchise since Alien 3 easy, but also the best scifi TV or movie since Devs I guess?

No horror, but that’s been super played out anyway. Ultra violence and 90s japanese style cyberpunk, seriously very enjoyable stuff! They’ve really nailed all of the influences and made them work brilliantly together.
