Funny, me too. Did that for about 12 years. Could always list about 50 good or at least decent releases from that year. Right now I can only think of three.

As far as traditional albums go, new Deftones probably. Not a great year in terms of music I like. Lots of cool noise tapes out, but I don’t really consider those albums per se.

The Flaming Lips is one the most consistent band through the years, I’m always amazed by the quality of the releases and the amount of projects, albums, EP’s, singles, covers, side projects…

I at least listen to each project. Nothing stuck with me since Embryonic. With this one the sequence of listens was wild: a. Huh. They’re sounding like Zaireeka/Bulletin again. b. Also loved the release by SIM80. Another vote for Inner Construct. Also new Deftones was great. Loving some of the collabs on Black Stallion as well.

Thumbs up for the new Mr. Bungle, didnt notice that and its a pleasure to listen to it. It seems that retro Hardcore has a comeback after Napalm Death. Lately I listenend a lot to Puscifer. They just released the new Album Existential Reckoning, Song Number 4 Grey Area is cool:

many great tracks but i think my fave today is
abandoned subburbs.
very very nice clean modern electro, if you like firescope / b12 /roel funcken / you should grab this.
however … it came out nov 2019… so it may not qualify.
