Go to the Macros and then the envelope follower section - instead of using an envelope as a control source, you can select an LFO there.
Iām liking the Akai Force but I feel like it crosses the barrier of ādawlessā.
Itās telling me; why am I not just using Ableton with a pad controller?
Itās so powerful; but Ableton is just 10x more powerful. Itās not that Iām never satisfied; but itās just like why force myself to use the touchscreen, which is mediocre at best for midi editing etc; and superb for chopping and slicing; if thatās doable for less than half the price with Ableton which I own?
Iām never NOT at my laptop spot anyways.
guess thatās the question with all kinds of overlapping & convergent music/art technology. Youāll never know until you try & find what works out .
I have the same suspicion about a lot of digital Eurorack: why not just revert back to Csound or Max on a laptop
Thatās why itās designed to let you also use it as the controller you describe.
If you want to use Ableton, use it⦠especially if you donāt understand why you would use the Force instead.
if it was better than push Iād already have one, but without the warpmarker technology I wouldnāt even need Ableton so there would have to be something really special for me to use something else besides push⦠if there was at least a small version like the size of the novation groove boxes that I could take around with me then I would get it but so far no diceā¦
I know one thing though, whomever puts abletons warp technology in a groove box with knobs that can create, edit, and manipulate the warp markers is going to have to move into their local branch bank because they will never stop cashing checks⦠akai should have already done this with the force
Yeah Iām curious about the MPC update coming to force and what theyāll add⦠maybe Iāll await that.
I have already tried the new update (Beta) for a while, but nevertheless my Force has finally been sold. I really didnāt like the workflowā¦
I think if you are really good at playing things live and donāt tinker with single notes afterwards, it could be a nice device.
But for someone doing the trial and error approach it can be sluggish, because editing the piano roll and stepsequencer on the screen really isnāt funā¦at least for me!
PS: the money will be invested in an OT
Same; I sold my OT (which still hurts) due to not actually being good enough yet to do everything live and recording it in a few takes; but the Force, while being fun, is not good enough at filling those needs. Iād rather revert back to the OT and enjoy the creative limitations in that case.
So; im probably selling the force and getting back into Ableton; it did open up Session view for me for which im thankful. Either I stick with ableton after a few weeks and get a push or ill just repurchase an OT as well
Question about the Force though as I intend to keep it a bit longer to see if the update is cool:
-
Iāve got 2 synths and a Digitakt I use it with (dx7iiFD and Typhon)
-
Digitakt has 1 stereo input, my audio interface has 2
-
I use the second out of my interface to send stuff to the Force
-
Force now occupies 1 stereo input on the interface; the DX7 the second, DT runs via USB to Ableton which forces me to have that open, Typhon runs into DT.
Is there a way to use the Force USB Slots to route audio into the Force?
Will the Force actually be able to use Sends and FX on incoming audio over USB ?
Yes, once you can hook up your interface to the Force you can send all instruments into the Force and apply effects to them, just like you would in a DAW
Maybe take a look at the new MPC update videos and the Interface connectivityā¦thatāll give you an idea of whatās coming to the force
I like it so far, only been two days, the UI seems a bit messy though - I can definitely achieve things much quicker on the OT, but have had it for a few years so obviously not fair to judge just yet. But adding a track, then going back to the main menu to edit it, etc⦠just seems like there could be a more concise way to do things, although there probably are shortcuts that Iām not aware of yet
Itās like any piece of hardware⦠the more you commit, the more you learn it and the more you get out.
It feels like there are a lot of posts on here from people making judgments after only days/weeks of use.
Iām also guilty of this, but itās a sign of the timesā¦
For sure, sorry just my first impressions! But overall actually very impressed so far, though I can see how that came across a bit overly negative
It was just an observation, not directed at you personally.
There was a guy on the MPC thread this week whoās just received an MPC⦠I think heās written more about it in a few days than
I could write about my entire studio in a yearā¦
Shift clip is your friend, it takes you the main program page
Nice one, thanks for that
I know exactly who youāre talking about and Iāve seen the same posts on other mpc forums, thinking is this deja vu?
Shift + a lot of buttons
Yes, once you can hook up your interface to the Force you can send all instruments into the Force and apply effects to them, just like you would in a DAW
Via USB? Or you mean i need to send my instruments into Ableton, and then make a send in ableton sending stuff to the Force? I havent managed to work this out yetā¦
It feels like there are a lot of posts on here from people making judgments after only days/weeks of use.
Fair comment, but initial reaction / first impressions do matter. Digitakt I liked instantly. Typhon as well. With OT I liked it from the start as well; even tho i couldnt so anything yet.
But Iāll keep the force for now; hopefully able to add my other hardware a bit more dynamically. More so thinking out loud; Force is MEGA capable but then I felt like reaching a point where Ableton is just so close you might as well; more to spark a discussion about the differences. Also; they work quite well together which i still have to explore a bit more.
any idea on when thats being released?
No idea, sorryā¦
