Rules on sampling other artists songs?

Hi Everyone, If I take a song, sample sections of it, remix it, and post it to youtube or soundcloud can I get in trouble? Just curious how you guys handle it. From what I know if it’s not to make money, and for personal use, then I think its ok. Best regards, Gino
