Aesthetic opinion: SOMA Rust

It looks like rust. It smells like rust. It’s rust on the surface. There is a house in my town covered with artificially rusted steel using the same process.
I don’t really like the abrasive texture, but it’s fine for use as a second FX unit in my experiments. In my opinion, however, it’s not suitable for an instrument like the Lyra.

So why did you buy it?

Wow, I find it beautiful!

Crazy move, but it fits their sonic aesthetic, IMO.

This would be pretty testing for my mind to see this in my studio, though, I guess.

Get the pink one.

Looks the best.

And I should know, I’ve had pretty much every colour.

I remember this rust craze moving over from rat rods to consumer vehicles and never really understood it.

Not sure I’d pay extra for a rusty pedal.

My lyra is white.

When I bought it, there were no other options.

I dont have an opinion on the other colours. Or the rusty option.

I have the rust editions!

Why is it not suitable for the Lyra!? The contacts are of course rust free

Why? Because it looks nice, of course. But the texture is unpleasant to the touch. That’s not something you can perceive online. It’s not a problem for an FX pedal, but for other instruments like the Lyra, which you often touch all around the touch pads, it’s not a good idea.

This remains my favourite Pulsar… :hearts:

Yes, but you also touch the entire area around the touch pads, at least that’s what I do.

Played with my Pulsar rust yesterday. Cant say the texture annoys me as I only touch the knobs, turrets and touch plates

Ah ok. Cant say I rest a hand on the unit itself - guess we are all different

I can’t believe they didn’t clear over it to stop and protect the rust finish… usually when you force rust like this you clear coat over it to stabilize it.

If it is not coated then I can imagine how bright or dark keys, knobs, pads etc. will look after one touches them with rusty, dirty fingers.

:scream:

Looks amazing, however they make a thing on their website about how it’s some super special process but it really does just look like rust.

I like how the labelling looks on it.

Id have also expected it to be clear coated, but maybe that also makes it look a bit ‘fake’.

I’m glad it’s actual rust, if it was some shit vinyl transfer it would be well corny.

If you’re going to go rat, you have to commit.

Clear coat is for cowards.

Atom Heart Mother Control Room Green is still the best! Especially for Lyra 8

I hope nobody shows this to the “relic guitars are pure evil” guys. They’ll have a heart attack.

Fun fact: Barker-Miller aka Drunk-tank pink has been said to temporarily reduce hostile, violent or aggressive behavior.
