Acoustic drums in factory settings help

Hi hello

I don’t have the patience to audition every bass snare tom HH etc :grimacing:
Then there’s the issue of staying focused as I find a modulated gritty synth BD that is completely off topic. Fun, but not what I need to be doing.

DT1

Does anyone know the names of acoustic (rock, hard rock) drums so I can put together a 70’s and an 80’s kit? Or an easier way to find them…Please! Help!

Are we talking factory content ? Or are you looking for sample packs ?

IMHO, it sounds like you’re thinking too deeply into it. You dont have to spend so much time finding the perfect bass drum, hi hat, snare etc. Just grab the one that sounds reasonable, and get on making music.

Err no. I’m not overthinking it. Jeez

Might help if I add. I’ve got a guitar gig coming up. I’m going to use my DT for drums…

For this I want acoustic samples to do the rhythm on my DT. For personal financial and time reasons I’d like to use factory presets.

Is anyone able to direct me to factory acoustic samples?

Hey,

There are a lot of nice acoustic drum samples which you can get for free, however it’s always going to come down to personal taste. I think you’re going to run into that time and again, that not everybody has the same view of what a perfect kit is, or which snare works best with which kick and hi-hats, etc.

Probably going to be necessary to at least once invest that time into making yourself a kit that sounds good to you.

I find that more often than not, I’m like “I’ll just use this snare for now and then change it out later” and when later comes I’m too lazy to do it, so on the one hand it says maybe it wasn’t as big of a choice as I made it out to be, but on the other hand it says having a nice snare that you’re happy with ahead of time is not necessarily a bad thing so I do understand why you want to do this.

A lot of free acoustic drum samples in this link (below) that I shared here a couple of years ago, you might consider getting some content together and comparing that against the factory samples. You may end up using the factory samples but do yourself a favor and use your own ears to figure it out so that ultimately, you can also be the one who likes what you hear.

Brilliant. Almost fits the brief. I may be asking for something I can’t get help with on here.

Whilst I agree a bit with ‘what sounds good to someone else may not etc’ I imagined someone on her might know ‘BD Fat on factory presets is a good middle of the road BD’.

Remember this is for an audience more than for me and my need for perfect :star_struck:

All factory content is prepared to the same degree of completion, so while clearly some are “electronic” leaning and some are “acoustic” leaning, middle of the road is the piece which is part and parcel to “someone else may not etc” as you put it.

It’s true that this community is not going to be a great place to find people focused on the factory sample content, or at least not likely to admit to using it.

From my experience with digitakt, the acoustic drum sounds are limited in availability, so while from your description it seems like you’re talking about thousands of choices, in reality it might be closer to 5 or 10 choices of acoustic bass drum, for example.

That’s why I think you should just see what sounds good to you, but that’s only an opinion, if you’d feel more comfortable with someone telling you which bass drum is “middle of the road” then I’m sure eventually someone will comply.

I don’t think that the audience is going to tell you your snare sounds like shit though. More likely they’ll be focused on your performance rather than the individual sounds which compose it.

I agree totally. It’s finding those 5-10. That’s what I was hoping for a bit of help with. As I said above I don’t have the patience or time to audition them all.

Not to worry, thought I’d ask for a shortcut for an easier day

Can’t speak for the factory stuff. Are you looking for acoustic drum kit samples? I would start with an internet search - something along the lines of ‘acoustic drum kit samples packs’.

I recommend the Yurt Rock kits as they’re (relatively) pretty affordable and sound great. I’m sure there are ‘better’ ones out there, but those are the ones I’m familiar with and use.

The Yurt Rock Maschine bundles contain loads (and loads) of acoustic drum samples. They’re seemingly always on-sale and you can get 20% off if you sign up to the newsletter.

Have you used the tags system to see how they’re categorized? All of the factory content can be filtered by the tags. That might help, rather than just going through the entire list.

OK. Sorted. Didn’t take long.

New project
Track source, yes, ‘factory/acoustic(found it!)/natural’ then put them into 6 tracks.

Good acoustic kit. No open hat so manufactured one

Thanks for the pointers and encouragement everyone

I know you already have it sorted, but I was going to mention that the Linndrum and LM1 sound a lot like 70s/80s dry drums. Reverb has a bunch of free drum machine samples and I thought they might be on there but when I searched I found this which I didn’t know they had. It’s a bunch of drum samples in the style of various classic songs and artists like Instant Karma, Fleetwood Mac, and Al Green. Pretty cool.

Hey thanks. I actually already have Linn and LM1 samples downloaded. I’ve done what I need to do but I may try Linn substitutes tomorrow. In fact, the Linn HH are very good, might stick some in

Ah, so after reading the thread, you indeed were overthinking it

Honestly mate, leave me alone please? I’m sure you’re lovely and all that, and mean we’ll, but I was asking for some help, not suggestions about how I work or what I need

Sometimes challenging your assumption of what you need is exactly what you need, think you could have replied the first time without the “Jeez” in the end and everything would be fine but that was a bit snarky from you.

It’s all good but I think there’s no need to continue the snark since @Xtalsonxtals was kinda correct

And please, don’t take this badly, I’m not trying to provoke you!
