Absynth 6

So, the engine got new filters and effects. But was the core sound updated? I mean things like oversampling.

From the music radar article it seems they’ve tried not to change that

For Clevinger, the top priorities during the development process were ensuring backward compatibility with legacy presets (presets from versions 4 and 5 are compatible with Absynth 6) and that the original audio engine was retained – a section of code that Clevinger says he touches ā€˜as little as possible.’

Also interested to know!

There are some HD switches, notably for granular, from what I heard

i’m not sure what is new besides the explorer window, MPE… the mutate was already there, the core engine hasn’t been touched i dunno… i guess improvements to the algorithms technically means it has been touched.

marketing…and a UI refresh…

And some new filters and high density modes.

Oh I really love it
But I wish they would put it over on iOS as I don’t have a computer which can handle music software right now

Hello! I upgraded last night. Sharing my first beat using Absynth 6. I used 4 instances: One patch I made from scratch, another patch was a preset I did mutate and a third patch I resampled and played backwards, plus the bass is also from Absynth 6.

Im enjoying it since I used to use the hell out of Absynth 5, years ago.

In my mind thoughts goes like, ā€œwhy did you get it when you have Arturia pigments?ā€ Thing is, if you own Pigments 5 from Arturia you should kinda think twice about the upgrade. I have both, but it’s definitely not necessary to have them both. Different beasts for sure but similarities too.

Absynth 6 would be perfect if it was more than semi modular, but full modular and also to modulate/morph that preset star map would be neat too. And some visual feedback of modulation.

Having said that, I’m a huge Absynth fan and will use this all the time… but hurray for the Pigments owners too! Cheers!

Pigments is good but I tried to recreate one of my Absynth patches with it and failed. Absynth definitely has a unique sound

Initially I was wondering, like a number of folk, just how much new there is in this upgrade… but having read the review and interviews on CDM and watched a few more of the videos I’m thinking that was a reductionist way to consider the synth. I don’t think the effort required to rebuild the core engine in a modern framework whilst maintaining the original sound should be underestimated. And it could be easy to undervalue the GUI redesign but between how much easier it will be to work with and how it surfaces previously underutilised features I think that’s pretty cool.

And so with the new features that are there too, the upgrade price seems more than fair. I’ve got a few new things lately and I’m planning to do NGNY next year so I should probably just behave myself… still, NI have in the past handed out evouchers around the festive period so we’ll see just how much (or little!!) will power I have…

Looking forward to check this out over the holidays

Most exciting thing NI has done in the past years, imho.

I dunno. Massive X is phenomenal.

I bought Absynth standalone when it was still on version 4. It was my gateway to Komplete when they upgraded it to 5. Along with Maelstrom (part of Reason), Absynth brings me back to my wondrous earliest days of using VSTs (as in ā€œHoly crap the things this can do!ā€). Back then my only hardware was a Korg X5 (starter ROMpler keyboard), so VSTs were a great way to expand sound capabilities.

I have Komplete 12. I will wait until next year’s Komplete 16 to upgrade, hoping by then NI will have collected all the low hanging fruit (those who just want Absynth 6 now) and include Absynth 6 in Komplete (that alone would make me upgrade).

I think Massive X had such a terrible launch that a lot of people don’t realise how good it is now.

Massive X is my fav modern synth plugin. It can do a lot but it’s also focussed enough to just get shit done. And it feels like it was designed for me UI/UX wise so that’s probably why like it over Serum or Pigments. The fact that you can actually rewire the whole thing like a Reaktor patch is pretty brilliant as well.

It just needs MPE now :stuck_out_tongue:

Back on topic: I’ve been really enjoying Absynth 6. The last one I’ve actually used was 4 I believe so a lot of stuff is new to me. Using it with MPE is really great. Like one finger ambient orchestra great
