Ableton Move : User Thread

It’s really easy and fast to load samples into a drum rack in Note, and then sync it to the Move. Handy for folks who have a ton of samples on their iPad for example.

Good idea.
I found the browsing experience annoying when loading a kit. I load one sample. Copy it on all16 pads and then change the samples for the 15 other pads to starting browsing from the same folder. Forget about dropping a folder with a huge number of samples, I feel it’s not the goal of this unit, with it’s immediate and snappy workflow - which I loved.
Anyway, I miss some features from live and some editing function, I think I’ll return the unit, what for new features and quality of life improvement, and will stick to live and note in. The meantime.

Its an unexpected surprise to be able to both sync and power the NTS-3 from the usb port. Really fun portable setup (and it didnt seem to drain the battery that much faster)

I didn’t understand the design choice of having no proper MIDI port at first, but i now feel that they had to choose between a USB host and MIDI as a size compromise. It really makes sense as the USB host can do both, making the move quite a versatile swiss knife :ok_hand:

Anybody get a “insufficient charger” pop up once in awhile? I’ve had it happened twice now. Nothing actually happens, music doesn’t stop, it doesn’t cause a freeze or anything. Just a quick message that shows up. I’m using the official charger cable and power plug. Maybe my power strip that has all my devices pluged into it isn’t supplying enough juice when all my gear is on? No clue

I’m absolutely certain this video has been shared upstream, but I couldn’t find it. Nonetheless, here’s the best walkthrough IMO for folks on the fence or have just received theirs:

And to whomever previously shared this, kudos!

I tried this setup the other day but I got the worst usb hum imaginable. It went away when powering the NTS from a powerbank though. Was this setup silent for you?

I keep my samples in iCloud, so you’ve helped me realise this is the easiest way to create drum racks for move, rather than the workaround to export them from Live :+1:t4:

You need a USB or 3.5mm jack ground lifter for this to work without a ground loop. I had a similar setup with my 1010music Bluebox/Blackbox.

Those USB ground loop filters are expensive, at least the ones I found. Any links to one at a reasonable price?

Is there a PDF available for the Move manual? I can only find the website version

Why not a cheap ground loop isolator?

Same result at the end of the day. And you don’t need an additional power supply.

Since the MIDI connections are optically isolated, using a USB-MIDI interface should help avoid noise.

These are pretty cheap, but I would recommend 3.5mm jack version instead. USB to USB Isolated Digital Signal Audio Power Isolator ADUM3160.

M8 has both usb midi and 3.5 midi input output so i fail to believe size constraint was the issue there

How are you finding the USB buzz? It was pretty intense when I tried a similar setup!

Edit: never mind, i looked closer and you’ve got a ground loop isolator in the audio path. Always be prepared! Love it.

Is it true that you can’t use move as a controller for note?

HI all,

I’ve just brought a set over into Live and on my drum rack I can see the master effect (saturator) but not the individual pad insert effects anywhere, even though I can hear they are active. I’m looking for the delay here and can’t see it anywhere?!

Am I being stupid?

Open the rack up from the mixer
