It’s great that Move is progressing. There are no complaints on that front. The only thing I’ve got to say about Move 1.7 is that it’s the first update that I’ve not been particularly excited about. I guess that means that Move is becoming / has become a mature product.
Any rumours/info whether operator is coming to Move? That is one of my most used instruments
Playing nice with USB hosts in terms of MIDI and accessing Drift’s parameters are huge from my perspective!
Great release!
That is true. Having all the Drift parameters has been brilliant in Note.
It looks like they’re realigning Note and Move — today Note got a VERY small update from 1.5 to 1.6 (a bug fix and some new factory sounds), and the beta jumped from 1.6 to 1.7 even though slicing is still the headline feature.
Not sure if this signals something bigger or if it’s just a small roadmap realignment, but either way I’m into it. As of version 1.7, both Move and Note will have Drift parameter banks, sample slicing, and sample reverse.
I’m very excited about this update, not a huge features set but for heavy users those are quality of life improvements. Especially that we have full access to the Drift and you can param lock or record automations for every parameter in it, it’s huge!
If they release Operator on Move, I think I will have to buy one again.
I love having full Drift (been on the beta for a while).
What I really want next is midi mapping so I can treat Move as the 4-part multi-timbral Drift megasynth it so obviously wants to be.
And surely with the 64gb drive we’re gonna get multi-sampling at some stage?
Is there a way to remove all the factory content so that the only sounds on the Move are things I add to it?
I want to make Move into a box filled entirely with my own sounds - both samples/drum racks, and device presets. Are there any links to this kind of content anywhere (either articles or videos) or has anyone done anything similar?
If you access the Move via SSH, it’s probably possible to modify the core library presets.
yeah i asked this on the ableton move discord and got multiple comments saying “this isnt what its really for” from other users. i just kept it moving lol. i want to be able to nuke all the content thats on it also. depressing that so much gear today comes with sample packs and stuff from “insert company” that i just dont want to see and cant even remove. also folks are asking the devs in the discord for splice integration on the move. love the move, i just want to put what i want on it.
Exactly this! I love the box - it’s hugely inspiring and really well designed. For me to get the most me sounds out of it, I want to fill it with my sounds. The same way I did when I got an MPC or literally any piece of gear I’ve ever had. It’s not the sounds in there aren’t good - there are some great things amongst the different racks and presets - but they’re not mine.
My only concern with deleting the preset files is that Move does pull from those when creating a new set. It might be worth testing what happens if you remove all of the factory content.
It’s also likey and possible that dropping presets in the folders will use those when creating a new set, but anything not on the user partition runs the risk of being blown away during a firmware update.
On the Ableton Discord somebody suggested that the factory content is added again each time you update so even if it was removed successful, the next update would potentially restore it
Been very interested in a Move lately.
Such a nice little compact unit and actually I’d probably moreso use it as a Live controller, with a standalone bonus side to it.
I love how compact it is for a desk, just to the side of a keyboard and giving you so much control. I like how it’s not so deep as the Push size-wise.
I guess it did turn out be the mini Push I always wanted, with all the updates lately.
In terms of Wishlist: a thin strip screen under the encoders might have been the only other thing I’d have wanted, but yeah.
I’ll want to upgrade to Live 12 in tandem, hopefully there’s a Black Friday deal this year, maybe on Move, too. Shame that rent to own thing doesn’t work for upgrades!
They do offer a small discount ($60) on the Live 12 upgrade when purchased with Move. I’m not sure what they typically do during BF sales though.
I think it’s been about 30% during BF. Not sure if upgrade also applies though.
To be honest, Live 12 suite is worth every penny in full price. It’s just so damn good!
Oh wow, so they do. Did not know that, great tip!
Last year the sale was 25% for 1 week, previous few years was 20%. Thomann offers some slightly deeper discounts iirc. Move wasn’t discounted then as it was brand new, so unsure what that means for sales in 25. They might offer a bundle upgrade to Live with a slight bit of money off Live itself. Move is on the cheaper side as it is, so I’m unsure if they’d take that much off the price, but you never know…
Ableton Move devs are on fire!
1.8 beta out with a auto pan-tremolo fx!
