Ableton Move : User Thread

No, we have different priors.

For whatever reason you’re acting as if the BT request meant it’s supposed to be the only way to access the audio produced by Move, and therefore the latency would be unavoidable:

All we’re asking for is the BT option to exist, for very specific workflows & scenarios where latency doesn’t matter, but immediacy of access & portability do.

Eh, I’m really not. And if you start putting words in my mouth maybe we should stop this discussion.

I’m acting like adding a BT audio option would be a waste of development resources because the end result is a shitty compromise on a device that’s supposed to invite spontaneous creativity and playability :stuck_out_tongue: And I’ve used Note with BT headphones. It’s shit.

There is no BT and it will not magically appear. Why even bother?

Thanks!

In short:
Track 1: Drum Rack with

  • own one shots (kick, claps, hars from a large sample folder collected over the years). Also some tweaking of those samples on the move. For instance kick heavily filtered
  • 1 percussive loop
  • 1 shaker loop
  • 1 recorded sample from the Guy J original track (background synth loop). Recorded directly from phone to move and altered start/ end point
  • 1 synth sample sequenced with different pitches to create melody

Track 1 has 6 variations (1 only shakers, 2 perc loop added, 3 hi hats added, 4 kick and claps added, 5 fill in with melody and fx sample, 6 is 4 plus melody)

Track 2: Reese bass filtered (preset)
Track 3 : preset synth (modified with reverb and delay)
Track 4 : preset synth (modified with reverb and delay)

I really love the fact I can create this all on this device standalone only using my phone to record in 1 sample). No other groovebox for me is this much fun, hands on and has such that good sound quality combined.

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

That hypnotic synth pattern that comes in at 00:20 is amazing. Kind of reminds me of Steve Hillage/System 7.

Huh? It’s not you that I quoted?

There will likely be a Move 2, 3, etc. like with Push.
We’re clearly discussing future revisions

Thanks!

It doesn’t need to appear magically, it’s already there.

The RPi Compute Module 4, which is the brain of the Move, has built-in bluetooth. I therefore find it legitimate to speculate about this.

oh. magic.

I don’t see bluetooth coming any time soon. Ableton is all about wires, or Wi-Fi. The Push doesn’t have BT, and even Live doesn’t have a built-in way to connect to BT MIDI devices.

Plus it’s useless for live audio. BT MIDI would be handy though.

This company is amazing thanks for sharing the link

I have this for my Move and can confirm it fits fine.

You may think you can live with the latency, but the experience with Note on Bluetooth is so bad that I (and many others) find it unusable. I think enabling Bluetooth audio on Move would result in a lot of people getting upset at the experience and incorrectly placing the blame on Ableton for that experience.

I believe the only use case where Bluetooth audio on Move makes any sense is if you’re just trying to play back a finished project or work in progress, and if that’s the case, just upload it to the cloud and play it on Note. Reasonable people can disagree here, you all are allowed to feel differently, but the latency on Bluetooth audio is bad enough that the vast majority of people will consider it unusable.

A good litmus test: does anyone here use Note with Bluetooth headphones? Even if I’m trying to just use the step sequencer, I find it frustratingly out of time.

Really don’t want to hijack the thread further with more back and forth, but I gotta ask…

Have you ACTUALLY used Note with Bluetooth headphones? You keep talking about use cases where it doesn’t matter— which use cases are those? Do you have lived experience using Bluetooth headphones with music production, or are you just asking for the option?

I’ve actually done it, and it doesn’t even work well with step sequencing, since the transport is in a different position than what you’re hearing back. If it’s actually something you have done and actively do, and it works well for you, good on you— you can put up with more than me, then.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to getting in some Move time on the vacation I’m starting today. Excited to get more done on Koala sampler so I can focus on the stuff Move does best.

I use AirPods with Note or Koala pretty much every day. It’s not ideal but it does the job. I can see why they would omit that feature as it take some getting used to but I prefer it to using the iPad speakers for most things.

come on fam lets not argue unnecessarily, unless it’s in a large arena and to the death… :person_fencing:
besides in hell there will be enough blue tooth for all of us

The Move is a great companion for sampling with the DT2. The included microphone is very convenient.

Yea please stop, if you feel that strong about Bluetooth connectivity options in Move, go talk to the devs on the discord. If you care about other people opinions on Bluetooth connectivity options, don’t.

I check the Unread tab to follow my favorite threads and see 20 new posts on this Move topic. I got so excited that for sure the 1.5 update has dropped, but no. It was you guys arguing :crying_cat_face:

I don’t mind deep discussions and strong debates , just don’t like it when nice people fight. Sure it starts out about blue tooth, but in the end it’s a slippery slope into crack heroin addiction, dark alleyways and stolen tv sets… brrrr brrr
