Ableton Move : User Thread

you can multiselect files?, I need to check again

No multiselect.

I have a question regarding the Move in controller mode:

Is it possible to sample directly to a pad when using with an external audio interface?

The direct sampling to a drum rack is a feature that I really want to be available in Ableton Live & Push 3, but it is not possible.
For me, recording an audio clip, converting to a simpler and then adding to a drum rack in not an elegant workflow.

Not possible in controller mode. But you could sample from ableton to the Move in standalone mode if you have it as an audio interface. Then it’s possible to sample directly to a drum rack.

Thank you. I figured as much.

All of my samples on the Move were made by sampling directly into the Move.

But more importantly I would like to be able to bulk download sets. If you’re using Move primarily as a sketch pad which I am, then once you’ve filled it up with 32 sketches, there’s nothing left to do. If you’re not going to continue tweaking them on the Move it’s logical to want to download them all at once and clear Move completely so you can start fresh.

Anyone know if recording 3rd party automation in control live mode is being worked on?

Isn’t that like 5m of “work” using move.local?
How often you have to do it that it’s such a problem?

Ableton has a 25% discount till Tuesday, which also applies to the upgrade offers you can select when buying move.

Hey everyone !`
I’m considering getting a Move, for many reasons but a big one being the sequencer that reminds me of the Elektron’s.
I plan to use the Move in the many ways it was intended for but I’d also like to use it for an Improvised Dub project I’m working on.

The setup would consist of LoopyPro on iPad with MIDI controllers because most of the sounds will be played live & looped.
The only parts that need to be sequenced would be Drums & Bass so I can make them evolve & transmute in small incrementation as the track develops.
My idea is to use Move for these tracks.

Because I need to be able to send the drums to delays & reverbs, they have to be separated from the Bass, so I won’t be able to have both the drums & bass going out as audio…
So I was thinking of having the drums going out from move as audio while using another track on move, a MIDI one, to sequence an AUv3 instrument hosted in LoopyPro for the bass… and maybe I could use the remaining tracks on Move to sequence or finger drum other sounds though MiDI as well.

My question to experienced users is: Do you see any problem with this idea ? Is it doable ? Is it practical or is there anything that I don’t see with Move that will make my plan not such a good idea ?

Thanks for the heads up, but I’m going to wait until July to see if there’s a better deal.

It seems like you’d be squeezing the Move into this setup. Maybe you could use one of the amazing drum apps on the iPad instead—patterning, FAC Drumkit, or Drambo? They all work really well inside Loopy Pro or AUM.

If you want a pad controller, the Launchpad Pro is probably much better for the job than the Move. Cheaper too.

I don’t want to do that because:

  • I’m try to ease the CPU usage of the iPad for looping, input, FX, track, FX and instruments.
  • Those apps are great but it means opening & closing a window whenever I want to make a change: I want to make dub music, I need to have every thing at hand, especially bass & drums.

Why using Move as a drum machine + sequencer for the bass would be squeezing it ?

Just that it seems like the Move is made for one thing (quickly coming up with ideas via improvising and sampling), and you’re trying to force it to do something else.

It’ll totally manage that, but there may be better tools for the job.

If you ignore the looping side of the rig, being able to improvise et quickly coming up with ideas is exactly what I want to be able to do with the move. I don’t plan to have any patterns prepared in advance, just the drum kits.

I am beginning to believe that Move is a gateway drug to Push 3 Standalone.

Lol, no. If anything, it shows how clumsy P3SA is.

It’s just a minor feature request, not a big deal. I posted it on the discord and other people voted for it so I’m not alone. I use google drive a lot for work and the first thing I did when I went to backup my sets with move.local was look for some kind of “download all” button and was surprised it wasn’t there. I don’t know, maybe it’s not that easy because it would require zipping the files or something but I thought it would be nice. There’s pretty much never a time when I’m going to want to download just one or two sets, I’m always going to be downloading them all.

How so? All I keep thinking is, I want more!

Watch any of the long-form YT about P3SA - finding & adding devices, presets or sample takes a lot of time, so people usually cut these out.

I see using Live via P3SA like this

Move feels completely different
