Ableton Move [Archived]

Well, I would have been disappointed not to have been disappointed.

Kind of wild how there’s groove boxes from decades ago with plenty more features than can be expected today. I honestly can’t help but think that a lot of these limitations are contrived.

Yeah, imagine telling a guy in 2004, when the first monomachine came out, what grooveboxes do in 2024. ā€œReally ? 20 years for this ?ā€

3 hours battery life …. Still looks like a cool set of features. Interested to see how sample slicing works

Yeah, I’d like to see some sources on this bit. I think that first hardware pic looked legit but this raises red flags.

But if what they are saying is true….

4 tracks and 3 hours of battery? That would be awful. That’s kinda what makes me think this is particular image is fake because ableton have always had their tracks organized from left to right, not top to bottom, and it feels like someone saw the 4 buttons and guessed that it must be track buttons.

Really?

I wake up full of positive energy, hoping for Ableton’s Digitakt…

For what? Ableton’s Aria, or worse, Ableton’s EP-133…

4 tracks? But I already have Note with 8 tracks

I’ll be Moving on if that’s the case

It seemed to me that it has 8 tracks and 4 scenes.

Ugh. The Digitone completely spoiled me for buttons on everything, from other gear to home appliances. I have to remind myself that there are just normal buttons, and then there are Elektron buttons, out in their own category.

Just going off that last image, it states 4 tracks in the description

That does seem plausible.

Eight tracks seems almost mandatory given the grid layout and the anchoring of Note’s eight, though given the apparent price point and the inspiration of gear like Circuit, I’d say there’s at least a decent possibility that it will indeed be limited to four.

I’m not familiar enough with the OP-1 or OP-Z; are either of those limited to four tracks?

I’m not buying the details on the description.

No way is it only 4 Tracks. That doesn’t make sense in the Ableton Universe.

A Prayer for Move Tuesday

Synth father, who art in Berlin,
Ableton be thy name.
Thy groovebox come, please make it fun,
with pads that are full of expression.
Give us this day, our daily grooves,
and forgive us our rhythm lapses,
as we forgive those who aren’t the funkiest.
Lead us not into awkward form factors and tiny screens,
but deliver us from modular… :pray:t5:

I call bullsh*t on that image.

Impossible ergonomics for a portable/handheld device and ugly as hell.

the price checks out, ~$470 in japan, seems real

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of Sweetwater, I will fear no groovebox

Op-1 is four tape tracks but you can overdub infinitely on each track. It’s really the odd one out when it comes to standalone units as nothing really does what it does. It does have a sampler engine with polyphonic playback and a sampler engine that can slice samples.

OP-Z has 4 sample tracks (each with two note polyphony if I recall correctly) and 4 synth tracks with varying polyphony depending on what type of track your on (example: there’s a bass track which is monophonic regardless but a chord track which can be monophonic or polyphonic I believe, and an arp track and a lead track).

Novation Circuit was two polyphonic synth tracks I think… and 4 sample tracks? It’s been awhile.

EP-133 is 4 groups of 12 sounds and 12 voice total polyphony, also plays samples polyphonically.

Dirtywave M8 has 8 tracks.

Digitakt 1 has 8 tracks. Digitakt 2 has 16 tracks.

Model Samples is 6 tracks.

Polyend Tracker is 8 tracks.

It really just wouldn’t make sense that the Move would be 4 tracks to me. It doesn’t make sense with Abletons previous works. Ableton Lite / intro is 8 tracks, note is 8 tracks, Push is set up to display 8 tracks, move looks like it’s set up to display 8 tracks.

Hopefully that’s someone just trying to stir the pot. Why would suddenly someone have information about the Move from a survey from two years ago and it’s only being brought up after a picture of the apparent hardware was leaked?
