Ableton Move [Archived]

Haha, now you’re getting into DT I vs II territory.

But I agree, I think it’s important to have the choice. A lot of things don’t need to be stereo.

The horizontal session view proves what we knew all along people.

Ableton have ripped off Live Loops from Logic.

Finally we know where they’re getting their ideas from!

I see room for a small crossfader on the left, that would have been phenomenal!!
missed opportunity right there, but maybe they can do another model for limited edition

I don’t think it’s a big deal but it is a bit odd especially considering that they now have a session view button in live that’s three vertical lines and a session view button on the move that’s three horizontal lines.

thats pretty rad you go around flagging and then respond to the flag w/ about the same subject matter you flagged.

I understand what you are saying, but im not advocating or complaining why Android doesnt have the same Music generation scene as iOS. All im saying is that major manufacturers of music hardware/software should probably still maybe make things for Android, I dont think that is a huge ask. Im not talking about small devs or the cool quirky auv apps. But like Ableton? or other big shops sure. Im mean whats Koalas dev team?
Also Supply and demand works both ways, if there is no supply one can hardly argue that there is no demand.
Again Im not complaining about IOS awesome ecosystem not being on android but I do think there should be some effort. The more major companies that try on Android would push Android to eventually become a better place for music.

Android is a mess for music apps, it would be a waste of resources.

I hope someday people realise that if they do not require things, they will never happen. The only logical thing to do here would be to refuse to buy any Move at all until it offers at least the same functionality as Note. The same could’ve been said of Roland’s MC101 or the stupid medieval thing from TE.

You have the power. Companies need to see flops.

Otherwise, before you know it will be 3 tracks. I’m warning you. And I am as guilty as anyone else since i bought an MC101 back then.

Not sure you understand what he’s saying…

I’m not a fan of Move at all. But a launchpad pro costs 250$ Move adds knobs, an audio interface, a standalone sampler and 3 polysynth tracks that can load synth patches made on live, poly at, a battery, speakers and mic.

Come on, dont selectively quote without the rest of context. I can understand what someone is saying but also not necessarily agree with them completely, the world isnt black and white.

Android has a 70% world market share, and yes there are a lot of crappy android phones out there. But the Higher end phones, Like Galaxy S series and Pixel, theyve had low audio latency for awhile, and those phones are probably what a lot of Ableton users also have. If a tiny dev team can make Koala, Ableton could do Note, thats not a huge want or ask. Im not expecting them too just because I want it. There is nothing wrong with an Ableton user want Note on Android, just like there isnt anything wrong with people wanting 8 tracks or better sample editing on Move.

Agreed, People that are comparing Move to a Launchpad and similar devices are mad.

I actually do think it is a big ask to expect an android app to be developed and maintained, regardless of whether koala is doing it. Piracy is also more rampant on android, which could further discourage people from feeling like spending time and money and human resources on an android app.

I don’t know, I just think it’s totally fair for Ableton to decide to focus their resources that work with the Note codebase on the iOS app and the dedicated hardware platform. Maybe they could have developed an android app by now, but Move probably wouldn’t be ready by now for market in that case, and Note features would not be where they are at today.

but can it send midi CC’s like a launchpad pro?

The lead dev of Koala talks about this whenever Android threads crop up on Reddit
E.g
https://www.reddit.com/r/KoalaSampler/comments/180bn9r/comment/leozcsp/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

He mentions on there also about Koala probably being much further along if the had not taken the time to support Android, but wanted to make it work. He used a custom audio stack, I believe, but if you build an app on Apple provided tooling like AVFramework, Swift, SwiftUI, porting that to Android becomes quite the amount of work.

The input latency for Android vs Apple is quite interesting to consider, as you want music making apps to be as responsive as possible.

I feel that brother :+1:

It does has resonance but no filter envelope. You can control the filter with vel, key, lfo, pitch, modw, mvol and mpan. Mvol might be the volume envelope, not sure. I think the good totally outweighs the bad with this piece. One feature I love is the load all. If I have a folder with 128 samples it will load all the samples across the keyboard.
