Seems like I have exactly the same issue on Mac, it’s been there from the start in the beta and has showed no sign of resolving itself. No crashes or error messages, just loops over and over without actually processing the files. I’ve updated my support ticket and posted in the Ableton Discord so will see if anyone has any ideas.
Process of elimination. It was kind of annoying. I split my samples in half, ran Ableton on each half to determine which half had the offending sample, split that group in half again, rinse & repeat until I narrowed it down.
Finally updated from 12.0.25 to 12.1 and suddenly I have a menu bar (eg. with File, Edit, Create, View, Help drop-down menus)?! Feels so ridiculous to ask, but does anyone know how to get rid of this (on Windows)? I’ve searched all through Ableton and across the net to no avail :(.
I assume you were full screen before? (just press F11!)
Thanks very much for replying! Before the upgrade I worked with Ableton maximised but not full screen. Going full screen does get rid of the menu bar, but I would really prefer to go back to having ableton maximised but with no menu bar. So, still searching for the answer!
Definitely don’t have the patience for that lol. I did find people talking about an indexer.txt file in preferences, but for me at least it didn’t show files so wasn’t much help in identifying which one was causing the problem - some details here:
There were also files in a folder called “usage” in “live reports” titled indexer with a log file but when I opened in textedit they similarly only showed packs and not individual files to find the problem.
Thanks for the response. Not using any third-party tools to maximise windows or launch Ableton or anything.
I think you might’ve almost cracked the case with the menu bar adjusting… I’m set to ‘Classic Medium Light’ appearance rather than having the appearance ‘Follow Windows’, but the menu bar is now in the same colour as the theme background (as opposed to the lighter Windows ‘system’ grey). As a result there’s now an empty Classic-Medium-Light-coloured space above the tempo/metronome/play/stop/record/key/midi-map/sample-rate/etc toolbar - previously this would’ve been ‘Windows grey’, so that toolbar appeared aligned with the top of what felt like ‘the Ableton zone’. Example (I know it’s an ooooold version): https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Nm8nLE4CNfE/maxresdefault.jpg
I think the difference also felt a bit bigger because of the new options on the menu bar (Playback, Navigate). Blah blah blah, mystery solved, and I’m sure I’ll get used to this minor but initially jarring change very quickly!
Anyone else experiencing crashes in 12.1? I hadn’t had a crash in months and just had 2 in two days.
I am! Curiously enough, the beta didn’t crash that often.
Sometimes this is due to re-indexing, picking up stuff it ignore before perhaps (bad VST or badly removed demos)
Since updating to Live 12.1 I can no longer load presets, for example, Drift loads, but if I try to load a Drift preset, then it will not. Any one have any idea what is going on?
I have had three crashes in two days. Just out of nowhere.
I have to routinely force quit, sometimes on opening Live, sometimes on quitting (Intel Mac). I reported this behavior during the Beta and was assured it was addressed for release. Not so, it seems.
Exactly same thing and I am on windows computer. It just froze 5 minutes ago and I had to use the task manager. I know it stores crash reports but I never reported anything.
It also does this thing with the File etc. Buttons are highlighted when I hover. Hard to describe but I will save a screenshot next time.
Since the update i have hiccups in reading my ssd on mac m1. Which was never an issue. My ssd has a transfer speed of 2g/sec, so that should be ok. Anyone else experience this?
Edit: it is the analysis scanning. When i pause that, everything is ok.
For people having issues with crashes: From someone who works in IT support, please create crash reports, and give as much information as you can about your hardware, plugins you have etcetera. If you can reproduce the issue, create a screen recording, or take screenshots so it’s clear at what point the crash occurs.
The amount of tickets I receive where I’m just staring at the screen thinking, “what do you expect me to do with this?” is beyond belief. I literally have tickets that amounts to, “something is wrong with x”
Ableton crashes, I’m on Windows, will not help anyone figure out what the issue is.
No crashes here btw, might be because I’m insanely unproductive. I’m on Windows.
Hey guys, is there a good ressource for absolute beginners in ableton? Like, a not too annoying youtuber?
That’s probably asking, I’d like to see a giant, but not a too tall giant
I’m sure there are some, but they’re not easy to find, the algo picks the loudest ones. One tip I would give is to rather than getting a beginner course or something, think of what you’d like to do, and then try and find a specific video for that topic. Recording tracks, midi editor etc.
And try to avoid that monster we all know, watching videos instead of actually using the software. My god, the hours spent…
wish I had better suggestion for you but not watching any Live youtubers for a long time now, try Ned Rush or maybe even the Ableton channel, they have some very basic stuff there presented very well
