Ableton Live 12

Whoa! Are these in the latest beta? Is there anything I have to do on Centercode, or do they just show up as packs?

Yeah if you go to latest downloads it should be there.

I like how they’re introducing more and more evolved versions of existing M4L devices of their own. Gotta check these out.

Your probably right.
It will be under ā€œavailable packsā€ rather than installed by default.

The MIDI Tools params are only MIDI-mappable, not automatable, so that suggestion will not work.

The new sequencers look like they’ll be fun. Does anyone know of any good / interesting automation / CC type sequencers rather than note based ones? I’d like to try setting up some different length automation patterns and let them play against each other.

is the Delay on Rhythmic Steps mappable to macro/lfo?
it would be insane if it is

It is. The range isn’t huge (50ms) so it’s a limited variation to be had modulating it, but cool that it’s possible. Quick n dirty example of hihat delay being modulated by LFO…

50ms is enough to create weird shuffles, but sure would be nice to have 500ms

great example, pretty cool thing to play with for sure

Damnit, Centercode seems to be down! I really want to check this out, looks sick, thanks for sharing

@alechko The Timing panel is potentially more interesting for weird shuffles - can create time shifts in a length that’s decoupled from the other seq lanes, so you can set up a shuffle pattern that loops 3 steps against an 8-step seq.

looks like the timing is global, I was thinking about creating offset for separate tracks on rytm, can’t wait to play with it once implemented

very cool sequencers, I love that they are making them more readable and straight-forward then the older ones

Yeah absolutely. There’s always been sequencers around for Live, some of them very good. That said most of them are either mono or melodic in nature, and given that FL, Logic and others have sequencers at their core it always seemed like a no brainer.

Some of the VSTs I’ve made a lot of use of are Atlas and XO. But with a few tweaks this combo is getting there. All they’d need to add is additional lanes (I can see why they’re restricted to 4 on screen at a time, maybe 8 at a push ala Fors Opal) and then also some form of intelligent sample randomisation in combo with similar sounds, and those plugins would be toast.

I only got the tape from the first pack, and I use it so much - sounds really nice and such a simple interface. Might have to get the rest of the devices

You are indeed correct  . Well as it stands then, I seem unable to successfully MIDI map most of the new MIDI Tools parameters to my Push 3. Either it’s a bug I hope they sort out or I seriously don’t understand what I’m doing. :sob: Thanks for the helpful tips though!

Did you originally say that you changed the mapping type to something other than the standard ā€˜Relative’ mode? I don’t see that info anymore, was sure I read it. Maybe was in another thread :upside_down_face:

I don’t have a P3 to test here, so all I can tell you is that mapping works fine here when using my DT2 as a MIDI controller.

Yeah really impressive as you say. Since Live doesn’t have a native tape, LA-2A and Pultec style interface, I think these bring a lot to the table in terms of workflow and avoid the need for VSTs. I’m not sure about the 2nd bundle yet since I wonder if that’s just doubling up on the analogue vibes with more flavours, and might just add versions on a theme. I’d imagine you only need one set. But whichever you go for they’re great to have.

Just a quick update:
Uninstalling and reinstalling the USB driver (Presonus Universal Control) and uninstalling CCleaner fixed the high Output Latency issue.

Update 2: Several hours later the issue reappeared.

Hi @garf, you’re the first person I’ve heard about who has mapped the MIDI Tools to a controller! Great to hear it works for the DT2, now I at least know it’s possible.

When initially trying to set it up, I made sure to follow Ableton’s instructions and set the Push’s relative encoders to ā€œRelative (lin 2’s Comp.)ā€ However, after I couldn’t get all the MIDI Tool parameters to respond correctly I tried every option for the sake of troubleshooting and nothing seemed to fix this.

There also seems to be a bug with the Beta that makes the Mapping Mode dropdown in the Status Bar at the bottom of Live’s main window disappear after the first attempt at midi mapping. The only way I can get it to reappear is to restart Live. (I submitted a bug report for this as well). At this point I’m just hoping my issues are because Ableton is busy implementing a native solution for the Push 3 and the MIDI Tools so they aren’t too concerned with the Push user mode side of it right now.

Where are you reading these instructions?
