Ableton Live 12

Moment Moment. What does that mean? I am not getting it. What update makes it possible to take full control over the pads for M4L?
Does M4L have Full Screencontrol also now or is this still not possible?

It’s possible since Push 1

FYI we’ve already updated all our devices for Live 12 and soft-rolled-out them on fors.fm, will put out a newsletter/post later today.

(The update doesn’t do much, it just hooks into the modulation system that Live 12’s LFOs make use of)

You can grab any Push control with m4l. It’s always been the case.
The screen access is VERY limited and it sucks. Basically you only are able to display static GUI controls. No icons, no drawings, no dynamic naming.

This just worked for me— downloaded, installed, and authorized Live 12 Suite on Mac. (The download was blazing fast at these off-peak hours— took all of five minutes from starting the download to being open and authorized.)

Really glad I have this installed and ready before leaving early in the morning for an overnight trip. Thanks for the link!

I did not experiment at all with the public beta, does anyone have any tips on how to approach the new categories/tagging? Would love tips on organizing approaches.

You can create, change and destroy live.banks on runtime but i agree that there could be done much more with the display.

I’m hoping to achieve something like the Apple categorisation in Logic’s plugin manager. What I imagine doing is some sort of favourite tag and then having my best instruments and fx available at the click of a button. I’ll also tag my VSTs so for example, a search for reverb throws up everything in that tag. Will need to create some new tags for things like EFX Fragments potentially. I also have some F9 racks (and other presets) that will benefit from the tagging system. Samples I think I’ll just leave as I have too many. Maybe tagging folders, but I haven’t investigated that one enough.

Did everyone have access to Live 12 now ? I still can’t see it in my account. I see the upgrade serial, registered it, but nothing happens. Any one ?

Nope, not in my account yet. The installers are floating around and easily accessible though after some folks just changed the name of the package installer to 12.0.0 I think. I’m gonna hang on at this point, since all I’d do is d/l and install for later.

Thanks. I find their communication bout this quite unclear TBH

No, I was the same. I use the link from SLiC above in this thread. Thanks for this

yeah it’s a bit confusing, they made it available for payment which leads to generating a license, but the Live 12 download isn’t available yet, it should be today (from their blog) or if you’re anxious you can download from the links earlier in this thread, it downloads and authorizes everything properly.

Thanks guys

But you can“t actually grab the MPE functions of the single Pads to control the OPAL sequencer? Or am I mistaken? Each Pad has an X/Y Axis which could be used to lets say pull up velocity on single steps in the opal sequencer, but as far as I know you could not get there with M4L, but I am not shure about that.

New Max midi transformers coming in already!

That is so sick.

I so hope it will inspire Bitwig because having the notes printed in real time like that makes a lot of difference.

Live 12 is now in my account. I am guessing here, but it just so happened to be exactly 24 hrs after the original email they sent yesterday. To your point, it would probably be good if they’d have put that in the original email. I can see that this could be designed to space out the download levels on the server. Anyway. Now to get downloading!

I find it weird they instantly removed the download option for 11, I was about to delete the 11 but I have plenty of projects saved as 11 and can’t shake the feeling that for some reason later on after couple of updates the 11 projects won’t work in 12, maybe some standard devices will get updates and won’t open in 12, dunno, but now I’m having second thoughts about removing 11…
even if you have some m4l devices in 11 project and for some reason they won’t open in 12, I guess it’s something to consider before deleting 11.

I found this video very helpful for getting ideas about how to organize the new browser.

Once I’d tagged all of my VSTi’s and effects, the video gave me some great ideas about how to best to get them in easy to reach places.
