Ableton Live 12

From what I’ve found, I think the reverse of that might be what’s happening (?)

From NI Komplete 26 info:

  • NKS Connect extends hardware integration beyond NI’s own Kontrol and Maschine range to controllers from Arturia, Akai Professional, Novation, Korg, Nektar, and M-Audio.

Push is missing from this list, so maybe that is the change?

I would be fine with this as well. I use a Push 3 and Komplete Kontrol S61 in my main setup. A way to browse NI content from the Push would be almost as good.

I think it’s a real. shame they’ve locked this new SDK only to Ableton Suite version. It may be tied to Max4Live, although there is definitely Max4Live-related features in the lesser version of Live, it’s just the “full” Max4Live is not enabled.

There is a big crossover between music producers and software developers so this sort of thing is smart in my opinion, but it seems a bit arbitrary to lock out Lite, Intro and Standard users. These users still like to make their own tools and Ableton have even acknowledged in that extensions FAQ that people are likely to use AI tooling to make this more accessible.

Why not make it accessible to all users? I understand having tiers with pricing that lock away premium instruments and FX, but this seems like an odd one.

Some of this could already be done using v8 codeboxes, as of maxforlive 9 / live 12.2.

example

ReFire - Easy clip relaunching for Ableton Live and Push

Nice move from Ableton to release an SDK.

Same here. Push 3 and S88 mk3.

So far NKS Connect is mentioned with Kontakt 8, but little mention of it anywhere else, but I’m hoping more info comes (and that it doesn’t require purchasing Komplete 26).

Absolutely wild of Ableton to announce this not with Live 13, not with a point release, but in the sub-point release of 12.4.5. Totally bonkers flex; mad respect.

I’m still wrapping my head around where this does and doesn’t overlap with M4L. Obviously one big practical difference in 2026 is that with Node and Typescript as the foundation, you can have an MCP server (which I give about 48 hours before someone builds one).

I hope people will make some cool things with that SDK. I barely passed Javascript class 20+ years ago so I know I won’t :joy:

Hell yeah! I’m traveling without my laptop rn but can’t wait to build a little generative pattern randomizer that I can trigger via midi for live improv stuff!
I tried building that in max several times but always hated it - the LOM, the weird idiosyncrasies of max vs m4l, the limitations of js and node inside max….

Whereas now it’s just going to be pure nodejs if I understand it correctly. So much easier!!!

Wow! A way to customize Live that doesn’t require Max4Live is huge. I’m totally ready to dust off my javascript skills and dig in to the SDK . Woohoo!

From what I’ve read they’re only accessible via right click context menus, doubt it’s going to be accessible on push 3 standalone as it connects to externally running processes - how would you start those on the push?
I might be wrong though, I’ll report back once I’ve had the time to actually go through the code

Renaming these clips is surly welcome, but should be a standard, with hash renaming the clips, instead of right click script open activity, or call it tag, like root note, scale used etc

Also as Nic Batt said, where is volume automation via script, that would save so much time.

I thing many would just copy what Bitwig already did for their DAW.

Ok a customized UI for live use would surly be something, integrated touch osc etc. (Set /Project control.)

Extensions SDK is going to be a killer feature! Cant wait what people will make with it. :sparkles:

Does this mean that someone can finally implement right clicking a MIDI Clip to bounce it to an Audio Clip or audio file, the way God intended? Oh, please!

Yes so fun story I am learning java, and java script at work, this Extensions SDK stuff looks real fun, I probably won’t mess with it until after beta, but I am certainly going to start think of ideas :crossed_fingers:you can add all this to Push 3 SA at some point too

Health warning on this for now, installed one of the extensions to try it out and my library got wiped and needs a rescan - not 100% sure it was the cause because I had other things running, but it seems like the most likely explanation.

That was one of the examples from the site - bbencut fwiw - and probably gonna be a whole lot of slop releases at least for the first while so figure I’m going to give it a few months until it settles down a bit.
