I pulled the trigger on the Move during a sale a couple months ago and have to echo the sentiment that it’s a very well thought out device that punches well above its weight. That being said, I think users might be disappointed if they expect a workflow similar to an Elektron device. Specifically, I don’t think the Move is designed (currently) with live performance in mind. Yes there are workarounds but it feels clunky for that use. As a portable idea starter and Live controller it’s pretty incredible for the price.
That’s exactly what I would get it for (the idea starter part and perhaps a couch controller), not interested in performing live. Everything leads to Push + Live in my setup already. But it’s more of a want than need really ![]()
I’ve been spoiled by Monomono’s devices, but if they’re getting into amp sim’s M4L it might tickle a bit… ![]()
Rack GUIs are going up a notch…I have all these originals as VSTS but still tempting!
Yeah I thought that was a bit unusual. Normally they’d get makers to put things in the Ableton style. Opens up a whole possibility there for some plugins to be made into M4L devices, where they’re simple enough.
Yes, It seems like they are standalone ready? If so, this is great for live performers.
I’m thinking about buying a laptop to use with my Push 3 controller. I’m currently on a Windows desktop that I also use for heavy gaming. I’d like to get a laptop because it gives me the freedom to make music on the go, and also lets me spend a bit less time in front of my desktop (for example, producing from the sofa).
I’m looking at new Windows laptops and waiting for Black Friday, but I’ve also seen several people recommend a refurbished MacBook. Is an M1 processor still powerful enough to run Ableton in 2025, as long as it has 16 GB of RAM? For the same amount of money I can get a brand new Windows laptop with either a Ryzen 7735HS or an Intel Ultra 5 226V and also 16 GB of RAM, so the major selling points seem to be that the Mac has a fanless CPU and that macOS is a bit different - plus it integrates nicely with an iPad (which I also own).
Anyone able to weigh in?
Interesting, I never got on with their tape plugin.
Cool to see them doing something together tho, first thing since the ancient amp plugin.
I don’t need anything beyond satin tho.
In short, my old M1 (standard) was doing pretty good before I went in for the Pro (some for music reasons, some not.) If using only Ableton devices or hardware, it was still pretty good though I could push it very hard if using lots of VSTs etc. While I wouldn’t encourage spending cash for no reason, the M4 update was a meaningful upgrade on the M1 and is worthy of a consideration.
Worth a read here as others have posted their experiences, and people in here are still buying M1s too… Apple goes to ARM
Yeah, it’s pretty subtle. But yeah, I’m interested to see if this is as far as it goes or if Ableton wants to bring other plugins into Live as Max devices. (No ilok too.)
I like subtle, I just didn’t find it to do what I want, satin does. I wonder if this is a different algo.
They should just plonk these in suite rather than charge, that would be much cooler.
Exactly the same for me …
Thanks for the reply. I can find a used MB Pro M1 16GB for around 460 euros, but I might just go for an M4 MacBook Air if it drops any lower than the current 870 euros. Fingers crossed a Black Friday deal brings it down even more.
I bought an M1 16GB 1tb HD for 680 euro, which is a good price in Norway, and it works very well.
I just use it when travelling though, so I haven’t tested it with big projects with lots of plugins.
My M1 MacBook Pro (16GB) still laughs at Ableton.
Same. I can’t see myself replacing mine for years to come.
I asked my M1 Air with 8gb how it felt about running Ableton.
It said, “What’s Ableton?”
Just had an email saying Live 12.3 will be released November 25

I can definitely feel the edges on my M1Pro ….
Like running a buffer size low enough for live instrument processing and then experimenting with different FX and reordering signal chains etc. can definitely bring on pops and clicks ….
Now maybe it’s unreasonable to expect that … but I ain’t laughing ![]()
Mine says, “oh the moving wallpaper?” and apparently can drink and process fluids??
My cat spilled an entire can of soda on the key bed last night. I thought it was easily a goner, but it’s just… fine. I stored it upside down over a towel overnight, opened the bottom shell and there’s not a trace. Damn thing is a tank.
