Pretty sure it has some chord sets as well. Maybe as presets. I read somewhere they have jazz. House. Etc.
Wow, M4L load times also appear to have improved noticeably. Opal no longer feels like Iām loading Unreal Engine in Javascript on a toaster.
Yeah Iām sure there are lots of presets for it. Iām interested in the performance aspect of the device to play the chords I want, and not in using its presets to come up with new song ideas.
Those 2 things go hand in hand really.
The chords I already had written *
I think it might give Scaler a new lease of life⦠itāll make for a good combo.
Yes. The only novel thing that ECh are doing is using MPE to modulate the parameters, which is driven by Ableton having Push (and very welcome, obviously).
Chord pads = itās basically what ECh is, i.e. itās the system that plays a full chord with a press of a note and the chords can be arpeggiated, strummed, etc. Additionally it has a system that suggests chord progressions based on circle of fifths / proximity.
Chord track = a global track that dictates key & scale of given segment of the arrangement. So for example you can write a 2 bar loop in C Minor, but then have the DAW transpose it and constrict it to specific key & scale in subsequent segments. So for example youāve 2 bars of C Major, then 2 bars of F Aeolian and then 4 bars of D Dorian (or whatever )
Sounds dope!
I wonder whether Operator will be updated at some point, like Reverb or Auto Filter were recently?
Itās such a wonderful synth, but itās UI is clearly outdated, compared to Wavetable, Meld or Roar. It could use more filter models, extended modulation section (e.g. Meldās LFOs and Roarās Envelope Follower), dynamic mod matrix, expanded view.
I hope this is in the cards for v13
Iām working on a M4L system for this particular workflow if anyone is interested. Oriented towards live and improvisation.
I did wonder whether the additional graphics from Auto Filter from 12.2 would make their way onto EQ Eight. We now have dynamic processing inside Roar so⦠it seems like everything is in place to do an EQ Eight update.
Iād agree that some of the older instruments could use a refresh in the same way that Granulator has recently been tweaked. I quite like it, though I know others donāt. They could for sure make the interfaces of Analog and Operator a bit more user friendly.
Iām sure this will sound a bit churlish but I wish theyād include Wavetable in Ableton Standard. I know they recently started including a few of those old AAS synths but theyāre a bit long in the tooth.
Even if you buy the cheapest version of Bitwig you still get a polymer which has multiple oscillator types (including wavetable and several other distinct types) and a huge load of filter models.
I use both Bitwig and Ableton and I genuinely think theyāre both great with their own strengths, but Ableton Suite version is one of the most expensive DAWs on the market and I sort of resent only being given those old AAS synths for standard version which I think is still Ā£300 when itās not on sale.
I would end on a positive note though - I think these recent Ableton 12.2 additions are great and I respect the ongoing work on quality of life and workflow features.
I think itāll be interesting to see what Bitwig will bring next, theyāve openly said there are new piano roll and sequencing improvements coming next.
ā¦or they could simply pay this dev off and add this as new EQ Eight
not sure if Iām late to the party but just wanted to shout out Liveās updated Limiter, I absolutely love it, the maximizer mode in m/s mode is incredible, if you ever need a maximizer give it a try, I get like 6db (even more) gain reduction and it still sounds clean and good.
my only gripe is that thereās no individual thresholds to m/s or l/r but thatās solvable with a rack and some extra steps.
save your money on limiters/maximizers imo, give the stock one a try, sounds really good
I donāt want to go too far off topic but I think that stock devices in most DAWs now are so good you can go 99% of the way without any extra plugins. It comes down to workflow preference or just having extra variety and thereās nothing wrong with that either.
When you watch people on YT who actually know what theyāre doing (which I definitely donāt just to be clear) they get great results with stock plugins.
Just because of DAW preference I watch a lot of Polarity working with Bitwig but no doubt many of you guys do amazing work with stock Ableton stuff. I always felt the stock Ableton FX were very good, but then again nobody is asking me!
You could use FX Rack with pair of Utility devices inside each passing either Mid or Side; and limit/maximize them separately. This will give you all the control you need
for Live, or Bitwig, or Reason, or FL Studio. Cubase gets close and Logic - which I never tried - seems to tick the box, too.
Iām not so sure about Studio One or - especially - Reaper
that was a 12.1 feature but yea itās great
indeed, I guess I wasnāt fully aware when it rolled out and missed it somehow or tried it briefly and forgot about it, I mainly use L2 because it has way better gui and Iām used to it, but somehow came around to try the stock one andā¦
