The ability to freeze group tracks was nice while it lasted.

So with the optimizations in Max 9, I have one burning question: does 12.2 load Opal any faster? 
Just to double check that I understand your final point, say for example I midi map some controls on my Launch Control XL to various parameters over various tracks, I activate automation via the button near the transport, I do not arm any tracks at all, and I start transport by pressing the record button, any movements of the mapped controls will create automation lanes?

The new version of Auto Filter is superb!
I’ve just been messing with the DJ Filter… I feel like I’ve spent years either making these myself and botching it, or bringing in 3rd party VST’s that were buggy; so I’m delighted with this!
Such a good manipulation tool too with the Envelope Follower, SC and LFO.
(Edit; New Auto Filter on Push 3 SA is going to be a really powerful prospect now… all of a sudden Push 3 could be brilliant for DJ’ing with.)

Ableton is killing it right now…wow. I am quite intrigued to hear the new autofilter mode. Finally visual feedback too, just great.

All the new features are great. I’ve spent most of my time with the auto filter and the new chord tool, and I still have to dig in to the updates in Roar and Drift.
Between this and the Roto Control I got last week, Ableton is taking up most of my time these days.
