Ableton Live 11

No, I just create patches in Max, then record them, either via audio loopback into Ableton or via the quick record settings in Max

Interesting new M4L thing. Not sure if there are others - I know there’s one on Isotonik that is somewhat similar, but it’s an interesting concept for $2.

What does it do exactly?

It’s worth checking the video. It’s fairly short and to the point. It looks very handy

It takes a scene in session view (eg: a 16 bar loop), and then creates an arrangement out of that in arrangement view based on this M4L’ers ideas of what a typical song structure might be. Then you can have it name the sections if you want.

I like that it gives you a starting point. Much better than a blank canvas.

Yeah I guess the reason I picked up on it is that this is not unlike my own workflow. Usually there’s a verse/chorus bit in session view; which I then translate into arrangement view. It’s not a terrible setup and I quite like recording from session to arrangement to get a feel for what the arrangement might be. But 9/10 that is to capture the loudest bits and then I take parts away in reverse to create the arrangement. So this device does that move; but in a click.

Thanks, the cost is minimal but sounds worth at least the time investment to try out!

The monobotic guy did not play the generated arrangement so that we could hear the difference between the initial multiple clip loop and the new arrangement. That would have helped some of us better understand what ArrangeMate does.

Well I think $2 is not a risky gamble to try it.

One other thing I noticed is that the 2 arrangements the patch creates are subtly different. I’m not sure if that’s a feature or a bug, and that isn’t necessarily explained either. But as you say for 2 coins it might be worth a look either way…

yes i saw that in the video. I could see that there are differences.

However I wanted him to play it and he didn’t. Would have been nice and would have made the video maybe 5 seconds longer.

I’ll still pay up the $2 to try it at some point though.

Having a little play tonight. For the money there’s not a lot not to like. What I like is that each arrangement is slightly different. So if you were a bit uninspired or not sure how to get a loop into an arrangement, there’s a random factor here that’s nice. I probably need to work out how to make it play nice with a verse & a chorus section but I think as a quick little cheap tool, it’s pretty cool.

For parameter sequencers, I would add:

Octoseq Modulator
3x Paramseq
AS_Steps
Sequence8
Stepper

This isn’t me stuntin or anything, just wanna share the joy of an ultrawide monitor with Ableton, been gassing for a while on one and found a cheapish deal on Amazon for this aoc one, can’t even tell you how pleased I am to be able to get second window view onto a single screen, best part is the edit screen at the bottom are sticky to the view the window is in so you can edit clips and parameters without tabbing between views…

Hrmmm. I do wonder what good USB-C ultrawides there are out there.

I also wish my M1 Air could handle more displays than the laptop and one additional monitor, but that’s a different issue.

Not something I’ve looked into myself, I’m strictly a windows monkey, I would imagine the usb c monitors are the more pricey end of the market compared to the measly 220 I paid for this one…

It’s actually just a wfhd panel, so it’s not 4k or anything fancy but there’s nothing to be sniffed at here, all pin sharp and more than value for money, just tried a couple of older games out on it, namely portal and portal 2, they look fantastic to my eyes, I’ve only got a Nvidia 1070ti in there but they were both buttery smooth…

You know when you entered the Mac ecosystem you were entering dongle hell.

$40 buys you something nice like this little fellow which gives you an HDMI port + more usb, sd card slots, and even an ethernet jack for when you’re having one of those days. It’s what I use with my 2nd monitor on my MBP.

I went with a 24" display for use with Ableton and want a wider screen. That arrangement looks really nice.

I would love it if Ableton added the option to do this exact configuration, but all in one window. A draggable separator in the middle would make it easy to adjust as well as also being useful on smaller screens.
