Ableton Live 11

Literally the only website I ever came across which f***s this up  (macOS is not showing this key icon here)

I’ve been swearing at it since Sept 2019 when iOS 13 and Catalina came out and broke it. I reported it to Ableton back then, Ableton reported it to Centercode, then tumbleweeds…

I am not colorblind, but as a proponent of accessibility in UI/UX, I was real happy to see the Reduced Automatic Colors feature in the Live 11 beta.

Just got added to the Beta right in time for this first release candidate. I doubt I will end up upgrading from 10 as I think it would be more prudent to skip every other version.
I would have needed comping a lot more 12 years ago, but less so now. The new devices I can make work in my own collection of VSTs. So that mostly leaves note random and follow action improvements for $189. I’d rather wait and get more things on top of that by upgrading to v12 (or 11.5)

Ah, amazing, I am somewhat colourblind and TBH am quite used to it and just don’t really use colour to distinguish stuff, I find other ways round, but I appreciate features like this. Trello is another good example, their colourblind mode adds different patterns to each colour to make them easier to distinguish.

I’ve been messing with Live 11 since last night on my 15" Macbook Pro mid-2012 with 8GB RAM and it’s been nearly unusable so far. Lots of hang ups, slow load times…it’s really a shame. Hybrid Reverb sounds very good and the Resonator sounds a lot better as well from the little I could tell…Comping is alright, I prefer Studio One’s implementation of the feature, but Live’s take on it definitely gels with the rest of its workflow…haven’t been able to explore much more unfortunately due to these performance issues. Especially any attempts at using MPE slows down my system ridiculously (not so with other MPE-enabled DAWs).

Granted, my computer is very dated, so I’m not blaming Ableton at all, just wondering if anyone else has been having performance issues on their older/elderly machines?

How does this work? Is there an audio buffer or something? Doesn’t it produce artefacts by constantly changing the volume?

If you want to take advantage of the pre-release 20% off offer for Live 11, I would move quickly now that the release candidate is being beta tested.

I use a similar m4l device. Not the same one linked here. If you do very fast and large changes there will be a jump in volume with these. For normal use cases it is not an issue because it acts pretty quick and the bypass button on the compensator allows for objective comparisons between before and after the effect. It is my favourite mixing tool!

It works like any other fx in abelton.

Recommend those sitting on the fence with L11 to look closely at the new comping features. While there are other DAWS with comping abilities - the one in Live is interesting particularly in combination with its overall workflow - the sum is greater than the parts.

That’s not to say that Live 11 is perfect - the general interface now both seems very dated and intimidating to newcomers and the file browser remains positively arcane…

Yeah, if someone was starting out, I would probably advice them to look at bitwig instead. For myself, I’m so comfortable and fast in that environment that I’ve given up scouting out the shiny new toys.

I’m still waiting for a reason i’d need to upgrade from 10, especially with the upgrade path price from Suite. But if they make a Push 3 with wireless midi and it has some extra features that only work with 11, then i’ll need a rethink.

But skipping 10.5 and going straight to 11 makes me think perhaps it’s a long pricey route keeping up to date with Ableton, even with the discount. Maybe the Renoize way is a bit fairer, where you upgrade 1 full version each upgrade path, ie 10.1.30-11.1.30

It could use an overhaul, and yea I am also super comfortable in Live.

I tend use MacOS Finder as my browser whenever I can, even for M4L devices, and keep Live’s browser used for importing tracks from other projects, and dropping in third party + Live effects and instruments.

Recently had to dig into Bitwig more as a solution for recording audio from Ableton’s output mixed with a talkover mic, for tutorial video production. Glad I did, because it’s forced me to make more use of Bitwig, which has been a refreshing experience once I found my bearings.

if bitwig as a newcomer wasn’t so expensive vs live 11 upgrade from 9 I might have given it a spin this time.
tho, the added probability, new fx n my desire to finally get into follow actions swung it in abletons favour too. jus pulled the trigger on the discounted upgrade today.

really lookin forward to getting back into Live. I’ve been usin it as a glorified hard disk recorder for my elektron jams for yonks now.

Well. I have been ā€œselectedā€ to the ā€œpublic betaā€. I didn’t request for it, But I think I registered in the beta portal some time ago and I’m owner of Suite.
I suppose the release will be on February.

I jus got accepted to ze beta too :sunglasses::fish_cake:

Ableton IG account confirms release on Feb 23rd!

I’m really hoping so

just saw 11 officially drops feb 23. i got my pre-order already booked, i generally keep Live up to date. it’s pretty much the only app i pay for. last time i snoozed on the cheapie upgrade option, kinda sucks to have to pay more after the fact when u know u coulda had it cheaper… and you know if any type of hardware device drops you gonna have to have it, so might as well be on board
