A4 Feature Requests

Just a small, tiny, little feature enhancement request for A4/Keys: On the FX track, I see that there are destinations for External In signals, separated by channels, which is great. However, I’d love to see an option added to have combined, single destination option for Volume (also would be nice for Chorus, Delay, Reverb as well). I’m hoping there isn’t some sort of a limitation preventing a combined destination.

One thing that would make me very happy would be the option of holding one or more track buttons while pressing the Fill button so the fill will only apply on those tracks and not on the other ones

or maybe even better that when you hold fill you can just select the tracks you want fill on. The same way as you can with transpose

Sounds like a good idea!
I hope the more basic features will be brought here in the 1st place.

User scales by allowing to detune the 12 key buttons per track.

I think it’s doable now but with a DAW. You just can use Channel Pitch messages. It’s possible with MIDI sequencers (hardware as well). Also probably that this microtonal tuning (usually it’s the name of what you want) is doable via some advanced MIDI controller which supports microtonal things via mappings.

More noise options on page 2 of OSC1, maybe tuned & grain with a base-width filter á-la DNII.

I much rather have a few mod destinations there, as the current noise engine is already pretty powerful! But no way to use it as a modulation source it’s really sad!

At least we have a random type of LFO. So it covers the basics of “noise” modulation. Having wavetables instead of sub-oscillators (or noise) would be cooler IMHO!
But in the 1st place I’m for filling the basic things like:

  • note retrigs (or Arp P-locks could be better)
  • dimmable LEDs (not sure if it’s possible, it depends…)
  • fully working Program Change in DAW feature
edit: seems that it works (for me) in USB-MIDI but you can’t switch patterns immediately (Direct Jump LED is ON). It works but only in Sequential mode (even when D. Jump is selected). It’s limiting a lot of my ideas! Currently it can be a kind of a “loop maker” only for me. Because we can’t switch sounds in DAW like in the inner sequencer! Frustrating…

These three things will make me so much happier about A4!

The random LFO is a completely different effect from noise modulation, still cool but not even close.

If they add the slew parameter like they did in the AR it will become more useful for slow and smooth random modulation.

But still having a proper noise generator to modulate parameters would unleash a lot of cool, organic and dusty soundscapes!

But maybe that’s just my bend, I do understand it’s not on everybody priority list…

Even just hardwired “filter cutoff” and “amp level” modulation depth parameters on the noise page would be more than enough for me!

I agree about a pure noise modulation. Especially if it has these built-in features like in A4! Probably it would be my 1st or 2nd feature after those I’ve numbered.

Not having direct change respond to program change is annoying, and frustrating, but there is a workaround using multi-map. The multimaps can be used to select patterns in direct mode using note events.

I use my external controller’s buttons to select patterns using these note event mappings and perform my direct changes on my analog 4. I am able record these notes live into the Octatrack midi sequencer so I can play these changes back and loop them and focus on other parts of my performance . It’s a bit of a hack, but it works.

Hi! Is here a topic about this somewhere? Could you direct me, plz? I’ve read something about multimaps but didn’t knew that there is a trick about (some) note events.
Edit: I think I guess what you mean! I’ve just watched the old True Cuckoo’s tutorial on multimaps, and there is the part with launching patterns. If it works from the external MIDI (to A4) then it’s great!
P.S. I don’t have any sequencers other than A4. I’ve wanted to buy Model:Samples as a sequencer but it’s not polyphonic and it’s not great for my setup. So my main sequencer for the moment will be the computer.

Here’s the thread on how to set up multi map for direct switching remotely (with note events)

can we have mutes per pattern and for bonus per bank on the Analogs please? like on the digis? the current per project only situation makes no sense at all and hobbles the workflow. If it’s not possible (fw limits) it would be helpful to know so I can stop requesting (begging for!) it . thanks, to who it may concern.

what is “mutes per bank”? Is it like you set which sounds will be muted and it will be linked to banks? If so AFAIK A4 banks keeps sound presets as an independent storage. If you’re loading a sound to your project then it becomes the preset of a track (sound). Am I wrong at something?

on the A4 there are 4 tracks per pattern, 16 patterns per bank and 16 banks per project. Currently if I mute (for instance) track 3 on any pattern, track 3 will be muted for all 256 tracks in the project. That’s project level mutes. DT and DN have that but also have pattern level. If pattern level were applied to A4 in my example then track 3 could be muted differently on each of the 256 tracks. That alone would be super helpful for my way of doing things. Bank level is another “muting option” which would allow each track mute state to be consistent across each of the 16 tracks in a bank. This option does not currently exist in the Elektron world but I threw it in. any or either would be helpful. Same request for AR (and OT but I hesitate to lump that one in with the analogs…)

Oh! You’ve meant that banks  Now I understand.

I don’t have much to add here but I would like a quality of life update - song mode to work/look the same as on the DT and DN. Ive had my A4 for years and it’s never had an update beyond an overbridge compatibility patche so Im not really expecting anything - and to be fair it’s not that important in the scheme of things! :sunglasses:

Speaking of QOL - I messing around with MIDI loopback on my AK the other night and noticing that a double stop freezes the machine. IIRC, they patched this in the DT back in 2022 or so. Would love to see that get to the A4/AK
