Don’t mean to derail the “second machine” discussion but Tassman is on 50% discount for Black Friday sales - looks like a sweet bargain.
Nice mentioned it, but I don’t want plug-ins! I’m used to the Kyma system ![]()

Just a thought…
OTO Machines is just about to announce the next machine in “December or January”. What if Elektron has made an investment and are now = OTO? What if the new OTO machine is the same as the new Elektron machine!!?
That could explain the change in OTO product development earlier this year. And the Biscuit is probably one of Elektron users favorite external FX.
What do you think? Am I dreaming too far off?
@credo I didn’t know something new was coming from OTO, cool! Have they dropped any hints?
Personally, (among other things) I like to think of the MD as an expander of the a4 (and vice versa). Use the MD MIDI tracks on the a4 and the A4 CV tracks on the MD. It’s easy to run the MD out to the a4 and back in to get sampled (and vice versa).
If you don’t care about pads it’s hard to beat as a drum machine. I’m skeptical elektron could build something better than that more cheaply…if only the a4keys had been the a4pads.

Oto has said the new box will be an FX and in the 300$ range. They had a “big” project they had to cancel because it was decided to be not commercially viable. Biscuit is a staple of my sound and my studio, can’t wait to add another OTO Machine. If it’s anything like the Biscuit it will be a game changer for me.
If you check out their FB and forum they have pics of the new machines innards. I’m not an electronics engineer so I can’t understand what I’m seeing.
This is great news man… I wonder what the big project was…
As for elektron, I’m gonna pass on the a4keys. I am hoping the mystery box is some sort of monome type deal, where you could send loops from the mnm,md,a4,ot and sequence/trigger them with a visual system of light blocks.
It would also make a great pair with the op1. ![]()
Maybe it will be a kind of “Maschine” for the Octatrack.
You’ll be able to juggle with all the current samples of your Project, with a dedicated device with pads, sliders and joystick.
Do we know when the announcement is due yet?

A (relatively) large company partnering with a tiny company isn’t something that’s kept quiet…
I like the idea, and OTO is certainly the blueprint for the kind of FX box Elektron would make, but it’s some serious wishful thinking to link the two companies together =)
The Elektron Spekulation Fest '13 hitting warp speed!
(Also, I happen to know that someone from another small, much beloved company was involved with some aspect (he won’t say) of the new OTO box. I can’t even fathom a collaboration between those three companies!)
I’ve been waiting for the new OTO Machine for sooo long! Bet it was Oliver from Mutable Instruments
(given the previous assistance with Der Oto)
I can see why people are speculating about Oto and Elektron. It kinda actually looks a bit like a biscuit machine under the glass except the coloured lights are to the left of the machine instead of directly above the step buttons and a octatrack sized screen in there place. Also is there 8 steps like a Biscuit or does the footage just cut short?
Shhhhhhh!
There’s enough speculation going on here.

I’m holding off my next purchase till then… just in case it is the Mixer/Neuron idea that I want and proposed as well back at EU’s…
They will probably wait till at least the sale is over before announcing, no?
And if a brand new product, expect the videos…

Me, too. i’m now ready to buy an OT. The only think is now what is inside the cube, really a Head problem for me.
^ I had that thought too, but in reality there is probably nothing in the cube that would negate my lust or need for an OT. Whatever they have yet to unveil will just be icing on the already tasty Elektron cake.
It would be cool if it’s a Matrix Machine. Inspired by the almighty ARP 2500 and EMS Synthi 100!!!
