For that sound, also scope the Yamaha SU10.
And you can get those for under 200.
Also, I’ve never owned one, but I’d throw in the Roland MS1 into the mix too. It’s the precursor to the Boss SP-202 which I did own and do love but can’t really recommend because of the price.
Yep sampletrak no doubt.
Maybe the Akai S612 is an idea. 12 bit, but of course to find one for under 600 is rather tough.
I had an SU10 and liked the size/sound, but it randomly died on me one day. Just stopped turning on. The risks with old gear I guess.
I always liked this video of an SU10 and Monotron delay. Very dirty.
This is cool too. Seems like the two go really well together. Wish mine hadn’t died.
no way: “S2000 can do either 8bit…”
From s2000 manual:
• A-D Conversion 16-bit stereo with 64-times oversampling
• Internal processing 28-bit accumulation
• D-A Conversion 18-bit with 8-times oversampling
• Sampling rates 44.1kHz/22.050kHz
Yes. just use your s2000.
Sample at a very low volume at the lowest samplerate, audio pitched up at source device.
Normalize sample
Pitch down
You have manually “narrowed the resolution”, giving you a low fidelity sound.
It is not possible on a 32-bit/64-bit computer software sampler as the resolution is just too high (it increases exponentially). I don’t think it will work on a 24-bit sampler (Z4) either, but it will most likely work on your S2000. Just try it
Ok, but signature sound s2000 is very modern, the filters do not add anything new
Just try some stuff out. You might bump into something.
Otherwise try one of those 80’s Roland 12-bit samplers. They are cheaper than 80’s E-mu and Akai
I would kill for a pedal version of whatever magic makes the sp1200 sound.
The Volca sample is 31.25kHz/ 16-bit. I dig the sound of it, and I think Korg should have put that analog isolator on all of the their instruments.
did you collaborate with white blush?
No; I’m digging what I hear though.
was gonna compliment you lol, it’s good stuff.
The Volca Sample sounds fantastic indeed. Super bassy. Great pitching algorithm.
Wish it was bigger and would actually sample, though.
The UI and sequencer are a bit quirky too.
Korg should def turn it into a 500€ actual sampler with a better interface.
I love my digitakt, but IMHO it can’t compete with the sound of the Volca
I agree, I’ve had similar thoughts as well. Make it grown up sampler, with more features, and a lot more internal space for patterns, projects and samples. Make it battery powered. A couple assignable outs. But definitely keep its sound. Maybe add variable bit rate, so you could choose from 16, 12 or 8 bit. Keep that awesome analog isolator. The Volcas have some fun sequencer tricks, but an expanded interface would help things out. Make it a similar size as a Monologue or Model:Samples would be great.
I haven’t messed with the resolution much on the OT, but is there a difference between how it would sound at 12bit or 8 between it and other devices?
Pretty sure the old Korg ES-1 electribe sampler has those same specs. I always found it to be quite crunchy and somewhat Lo-fi. That might be another option to consider. I still have some old smart cards with 100s of saved patterns and samples… will get one again someday.
Just came here to post that. Lol. Dope video.
