I am looking for a 12 bit sampler(like sp12) - just, to be cheap(~600$)… and signature sound must be a very oldschool I have akai s2000, but his characteristics are very modern for me.
Do you have any suggestions?
You can try the Zoom sampletrack st 224 , very gritty, the poor man SP1200
Sampletrak, yes!
For lower bitrate and gritty samples, i also use the PO 33 KO (8bit), it does the job very well and is pretty cheap.
not sure if I’m correct in saying but think the Volca Sample might be 12-bit? I had a lot of fun with the mk1 and mk2 seems to have solved some minor headaches, maybe worth a look
You should consider using an OTO BIM, in thru mode, to process your sounds instead.
Shout out to the casio FZ10M - the best oldchool sampler imo.
Just make sure the floppy drive isn’t bust or even better get one with a USB conversion. Seem rare though.
Oh just priced it. Didn’t realise these boxes have shot up so. €1500. Glad I still have mine
Roland S550. Any sample sounds great with it.
Also Korg Volca sample on drums.
It’s the sound not the numbers
Have you considered the s900 or s950?
yap, its expensive and rare
slight left-field and again, not certain about the bit quality values but know it’s intended as a partial homage to these devices: Squid Salmple
+1 on the Zoom sampletrak… it really is the closest thing to a poor man’s sp 1200 there is. It sounds like 90’s hiphop (I think its 16 bit, but 32khz samplerate), it can do the aliasing/ringing like it’s nobody’s business, and is still quite affordable.
Using it is a bit like using an old school calculator though, it works, but it has weird quirks and can’t do some basic things.
As an alternative you could look at the boss sp202 or the yamaha su10, both lofi sounding, but no sequencer like the sampletrak.
True, but it isn’t 44.1khz.
It’s 36kHz and lower
I felt the sound fitted OPs needs.
Yeah they sound crunchy and wonderful.
Technically, Ensoniq’s original EPS was 13-bit, but it offered a range of sample rates. Hard to beat that one for gritty 80s feel, without going hardcore and getting an 8-bit Mirage for the full cEvin Key sound…
Yes and more than a few of us appreciate the sound of aliasing.
I love my Sampletrak, so I’d definitely agree with that. I don’t really know what the specs are except that the hifi mode is 32 khz. But here are a few examples of mine in action if you’re interested. In both cases, it’s being sequenced by the Digitone.
One can be yours for between 200 and 300 dollars.
