It’s a lovely dream. Would have to be full-sized audio and MIDI connections too.
(cough)
Hehehe!!! I guess it’s on the brains
I’d just run them side by side, but it would be nice to have the MIDI sync and audio routings internally.
Question about “Pad Note” midi behavior:
I am attempting to set up the following:
When hitting notes on a midi keyboard, I want every 8 notes to trigger single slices of each of my 16 pads, essentially having the slices across all pads available on one midi channel.
Here are my settings:
- 16 samples loaded into the pads, each one set to Slicer with 8 slices.
- Each pad set to Trigger and PlayThru
- All pads set to Midi In on Ch 16
- Each pad has the “Pad Note” set 8 notes above eachother (So C-1,G#-1, all the way up to C9 etc)
- Global Midi In: None
- Midi Seq: None
Behavior I am seeing with the above settings:
Hitting notes 0-35 do nothing, note 36 triggers the first slice of every pad simultaneously, the next 7 notes trigger the next 7 slices of every pad, and then any note above that all the way up to note 127 triggers the very last slice of every pad.
It almost seems as if the Pad Note setting is being ignored and instead using a Default note of 36?
Is the behavior I’m describing expected, or am I encountering a bug of some kind?
If this is expected, is there possibly an older firmware version that might enable me to accomplish this setup? (As I don’t need the Global Midi channel from the newer firmware)
Thank you for your time!
(Posted this on Blackbox forum but figured it was worth a shot crossposting here as well)
just got one of these, basically in the hope that I can just sample some stems, slice and trigger from my Digitakt and avoid carrying around a 2U rack in an unbelievably heavy case which is not always very viable (if ever tbh!)
pleasantly surprised that it sort of feels like it could also pretty much do a live set of some sort on it’s own and/or be a sketch pad. Feels like an ideal match for a Digitakt anyway!
dumb new user question:
Anyone mapped pitch to a CC and succesfully managed to work out how to shift it up/down an octave?
(also a fifth would be nice)
super confused about how this works.
I tried setting pitch to zero, cc amount to 50% and then sending 127… doesn’t seem to be an octave, but feels like it should be!
edit: OK, it appears it needs to be 100%, which means you can only shift it an octave via MIDI.
that is all I need though, so all good!
I think a fifth up (or close enough) is cc value 100 in case anyone cares, although this is probably a chat with myself.
I’m listening. Always good to know this stuff. The BB is pretty neato, I’m a big fan.
in the interest of completeness it appears to be roughly:
@100%
79 - Minor Third Up
100 - Fifth Up
127 - Octave Up
36 - Fifth Down
0 - Octave Down
but imagine these are not exactly right for the most part. Fortunately I am of the 90s sample generation so am pretty fine with stuff being slightly out of tune.
It is a very neat box. There are a few things that are a bit “huh?” but a few hours thinking about it reveal loads of brilliant potential, and I hadn’t really even thought about live looping or MIDI controlled recordings, or even using the sequencer tbh.
Suspect I might make some stuff with just the Blackbox at some point as it seems very fun for this.
the only two things I hope they fix so far are:
- MIDI control of the FX sends as this would be so good for live use…
and
- it seems like you can only trigger 91 of the 128 slices of a slicer pad over MIDI? I sort of hope I am wrong about this, but if you can move the start note, I don’t know how!
Seems like a weird choice, and annoyingly this is sort of exactly how I was planning to use it…
Do not sleep on the blackbox sequencer.
It is silly powerful, once you get to know it.
I’m telling you. Don’t ask me about it. Just dive into it instead.
How weird ! If 127 is octave up and 0 is octave down, you’d expect 63 or 64 to be no change, and the other values to be linear … perhaps … but they don’t appear to be.
My fault I think - not technically a “fifth down”, but the five semitones down to the fifth of the scale, which is more accurately “a fourth down”.
The values are a percentage of the max change (although it seems to be +/- 1 octave not two)
So each +1 of the cc value is 0.1875 of a semitone (I think) which is sort of workable if not necessarily the clearest
As of today, 1010Music released a beta of their most recent firmware v3.0.15.
This firmware includes two very key enhancements:
-
Multi-sample banks with up to 16 velocity levels and 576 loaded WAV files in one preset.
-
Automated multi sample loading based on filename
Radical
Is there a link to the news somewhere? Curious to see if it related to bitbox micro also
Edit: found it, I think.

whoa!
I’m going to need an even bigger SD card it seems!
i guess this means you can grab the Tangerine piano and import it too (?)
That’s correct.
fantastic stuff, I love this box already!
No updates yer con class compliant compatibility?
No updates from us (either commitments or s/w releases) around audio class compatibility, unfortunately. We definitely hear the request, though. It’s definitely been a requested feature for a while.
