@smokyfrog yeah it’s not as ideal as just letting us choose 117 bars… but it’s something! I’d also settle for being able to trim samples by bars/beats. No reason for me to be wanting right now though with this update
Didn’t you do a comparison between the Bluebox and the SiX? Curious to see how your ears and preferences may have changed
As a Bluebox owner, I can concur that the EQ is the bees knees. Only thing better than a 4-band parametric EQ is 13 of them also, every delay should have a bandpass filter. Again, glad to see 1010 bringing these features to the masses. Could’ve easily pulled a “well get a Bluebox if you want the EQ” line
I did. And I’ve now had a session with the Blackbox into the SiX inputs, all out into all in, and then SiX through the Fusion. With some relief, I can say it doesn’t compare.
Having said that, if I had only the Blackbox with its now existing master eq to deliver a finished track, I’d still feel I’d do all right. It really sounds great. Like Toraiz great. Once you find the sweet spot for the Blackbox compressor, you can get a really fine vibe going with all these tools in the box now.
I guess the overall difference between these two approaches, is that the constant movement within the SSL gear adds a variety depth to anything you run through it, that just makes the ears never go tired. There’s always the output quality argument to be had, just like threads on the Octatrack converters arise from time to time, but I really don’t think one is better than the other, though the price tags might indicate this is so. They’re just different.
But I prefer these shifts and movements, this feeling that the track’s alive somehow when it goes through the SiX stuff. But I can see many contexts where you don’t want this and really prefer the more defined and controlled sound of a damn fine digital eq.
BTW apologies for being slow but what’s the key or encoder combination for getting out of the MIDI/LFO assign page and back to the regular screens (envelope etc.)? Having set my mod value I seem to be stuck there. Edit: it even goes straight back to that screen if I load in a new Preset. Eek!
Asked on the 1010 forum but I suspect this one might reply quicker.
Hehe I replied there too. Back doesn’t take me to the screen I entered from but to the screen that says what type of audio it is. Nothing I’ve done yet will take me to the screen with the wee knobs on - it’s locked on the assign page.
I’m on mine right now, and mine is acting like it should, so I’d try reinstalling the firmware if you can’t ‘Back’ button out of it.
From the ‘Pads’ screen, it should be the ‘info’ button to get into the knobs screen.
FYI - 99.9% of any of the problems I’ve seen from 2 years of owning the BB and following the forums regarding weirdness have been SD card related. If it doesn’t resolve itself with downloading a new BIN file and reinstalling, try a different card/ re-for acting your card (FAT32 I believe is what is recommended if I remember correctly - might want to check the BB forums)
OK, cheers. I’ll probably just put the old firmware back for now, was more of a curiosity thing than anything else to see if there were features I needed.
