Overbridge in May but WHEN?

Yes there are many days in May but when exactly will it come out, May 1st? May 15th?

WHEN?

May 33rd 2018

Easy now…
At the moment you will have to live with “sometime in May”.

I can assure you that R&D are working very hard, and from what I’ve seen from just the past week after Messe, things are going quite well! Some really neat functions underway … Overway™ ? :joy:

Hi Simon , I do not understand why is shown in every showroom of the world but is never released .I want to be optimistic, but in a year I saw the same things , as for the last Musikmesse where we have not seen anything new , including the issue that once again is again postponed. Your friend ( Jon ) had reassured us by saying that the release would be before or during Musikmesse right? But I see that many do not remember it . The dream of overbridge is fading slowly

It’s not uncommon that projects of this (somewhat unexpected) magnitude are delayed. Predicting when it’s going to be finished is very hard, especially with such a big undertaking as Overbridge.

However, as you can see from the Musikmesse videos, it’s well on its way.
(It was really only a mockup of the GUI at NAMM, no functionality was there)

Look guys.

Expect it May 31st and you won’t be disappointed.

Too easy.

No one shall knoweth the hour. Execept the Father (Cenk) and the Son (Cukkoo)!

It’s totally understandable Simon, I really believe that what Elektron is doing with Overbridge is nothing short of extraordinary and the gateway to what will be in the future. Excellent stuff! I am very glad I fell in love with your gear.

Thanks for the reply, I was kidding around up there.

I’ve worked in software development since Jesus wore short pants. Video game development, to be more precise. Every industry has its Half-Life. You wait, speculate, opinionate and lament.

And once it’s out, all that will be gone.

For every Half-Life, there’s ten Daikatanas, of course.

But Overbridge won’t be one of them. Elektron is the Valve of the music industry and Overbridge is their Half-Life. Or their Portal, if you want to be really clever about it.

Bingo!

Jeez, couldn’t even wait till May 1st before starting to whine about it??

At least it ain’t no Duke Nukem Forever …

:joy: Had forgotten all about the Daikatana saga! Brings back some memories.

F overbridge. I’m waiting forunder-bridge.

as in you May, or May not believe them

Nah, I believe them, it is completely understandable to have delays, they want to bring forth the best product possible. What they are doing is no small undertaking, can you name me another hardware synth that will connect to a computer in a way that Overbridge will? It’s funny, because on this board there was a novice who made a post and obviously had no idea that you needed an audio interface to connect your synth to a computer and record, someone responded snidely that “you can NOT record with just a USB you need an audio interface to record” because this is the way it used to be, until Overbridge is released of course. Overbridge is nothing short of revolutionary, I for one am waiting patiently for it. May 1st or May 31st, it will be worth the wait.

We will see. Frankly, we’ve been given vague timeframes before. And, clearly its not ready.

An Access Virus TI.

What I should have said was name another ANALOG hardware synth that connects to the computer the way Overbridge will.

From pages 50 and 51 of Virus T1 manual-

VirusControl plugin – the hub of Access’ Total Integration concept.

For detailed information on the functionality of all the various
parameters within VirusControl, please refer to the Virus TI
User (Reference) Manual.

By means of a single USB connection, the TI not only handles
communication of all the MIDI data, but also up to 4 stereo
audio streams (2 x stereo for the Virus itself, plus 2 x stereo for
the soundcard functionality). External audio signals can be
processed via the balanced analog inputs or S/PDIF I/O, or
routed directly to your sequencer host. The studio-grade audio
convertors even allow the Virus TI to be used as your computer’s
soundcard, meaning your sequencer can send its master
output signal to the outputs of the Virus, and the external MIDI
ports can be used as a MIDI interface for controlling external
hardware.
What is ‘Total Integration’?
‘Total Integration’ describes the way in which the Virus TI can
sync with your computer far more deeply than has previously
been possible with hardware synthesizers, thus enabling it to
function within a software host as comfortably as any native
VST instrument or Audio Unit.
What is VirusControl?
VirusControl is a VSTi or AudioUnit plug-in which runs in your
sequencer host, and is effectively a software representation of
your Virus TI. Audio and MIDI data from all 16 parts of the Virus
are streamed directly into your sequencer, making the TI feel
just like a native plug-in. The myriad sound-editing parameters
available in the Virus are presented in convenient pages, and
the extensive librarian functionality allows you to manage not
only the patches on your harddrive, but also in the TI itself.
Why use VirusControl?
Over the last several years, increasing numbers of musicians
have been turning to so-called ‘softsynths’ or ‘virtual instruments’,
largely due to a number of perceived benefits that they
offer over their hardware counterparts, for example: sampleaccurate
playback and automation of parameters, total recall
of patch data and virtually limitless storage space for patch
libraries.
The main downsides to softsynths have always been the lack
of a dedicated, tangible control-surface and not least the
heavy load some of these instruments can place on the host
CPU.
This is where the combination of the Virus TI synthesizer and
the VirusControl plug-in comes into it’s own – since the heavyduty
calculations required to produce the incredible sounds of the Virus TI all happen outside of the host computer, your computer’s
CPU is free to do other things, whilst you get to enjoy
what all good synthesists love best, which is twiddling with our
knobs.
