Zynthian is an Open Synth Platform : An Open Hardware device (currently based on Raspberry Pi) running ZynthianOS, a customized Linux distribution (currently Raspbian-based), specifically configured and adapted for audio synthesis & processing.
If you follow the “buy” button, you get to a page with ordering info, even if they aren’t in a position to sell them yet. Price is 490 Euros with no Pi, 570 with.
I paid 354.0 EUR for a Zynthian 4.5 kit about 2 years ago. This included a Raspberry Pi 4 - 8GB and shipping.
Looks like prices have gone WAY UP on the newest version. Admittedly the case, buttons, and layout look significantly better than the 4.5 version (you can see a mockup of the older version here by scrolling down: https://blog.zynthian.org/)
Wow, biiigg price difference, but you’re right the V4 to V5 does look a bit different. This incarnation is something along the lines of a mpc live, micro edition, or something like that so I guess some extra cost into the design? I guess? Raspberry Pi’s are going up in price perhaps?
Is it possible to try out Zynthian without investing in the full hardware platform ? I’m thinking like the M8 headless version (still needs some hardware) or else running it on a mac (or windows) ?
If no-one here knows I’ll head over to their forum.
