Zoom Ms-70 CDR

I payed £70 for my original ms-70cdr, is this still good value at 2.5 times the cost of the old one?

I’m a little miffed there isn’t a regular midi port (even 3.5mm trs)

I’m not sure the new version would be tempting to an existing owner. From a quick scan it seems like just more of the same: more patches, more storage, more knobs. All nice but not a game changer like adding midi sync.

Yeah sometimes I just really wonder what kind of market research these companies are even doing.

You wait 10 years(!) to update a popular pedal … and then don’t include midi sync? Or a way to change patches using a regular midi cable as opposed to usb-c?

I don’t get it

According to the rep at NAMM all the algos have been updated.

I’ll probably buy a new version as and when I can find one cheap enough as I’ve often thought I need another MS-70CDR anyway, given how useful they are.

I’ll probably upgrade, the bigger buttons and extra dial should make it easier for configuring via touch.

A note of caution: if these new pedals use the same tech as the G3n (which they seem to do) then they’ll often have less parameters to tweak than the older pedals they replace. This is because Zoom have increased the physical knobs (from 3 to 4) but removed the old parameter page navigation system (its a ‘scroll right’ action rather than a ‘change page’ action).

For example, on my MS-70CDR, there are three pages of parameters for the SpaceHole effect (3x3 = 9 parameters), but on my G3n (which has the newer tech and 4 knobs per pedal instead of three) there are only 8 parameters for the SpaceHole effect available via scrolling (2x4=8). The new version adds a footswitch function parameter but loses both the treble and bass filters, which IMO are crucial to dialing in this effect. If the EQ is set to neutral I can’t hear any difference between the two effects, so it’s definitely a downgrade in terms of functionality.

A guy (“electrotune”) published that on Reddit. Bolded ones seem new on MS70

Anyone have a solution for bypassing the original ms70 pedal? I have seen suggestions on other forums of using a line selector at the start of each patch or a physical ab line selector in the wiring chain of pedal boards and the last one i saw was switching to the guitar tuner which seams to bypass the fx but changing this means you cannot a use the tap tempo as a single 1 second press on the footswitch is either tap tempo or tuner in the global settings.

I hope they have found a solution on the V2.

Hi,

in my search for nice MultiFX presets for the MS-70 I came across this nice tool. I hope you haven’t seen it here yet. It helped me a lot when creating effects. Then there is also another tool where you can transfer the effects from the other pedals to the MS-70. I briefly considered this, but haven’t missed any effects yet.

Nice tip! For anyone wondering as I was first confused about what tool you were talking: You have to switch to the freeware section to show the zoom patch manager.
Here is an overview of it.

my biggest hope is that they can be hacked and the new effects can be ported over to older models.

Another option (without needing a line selector pedal) is to create an empty patch on the MS70 and then put the unit into patch memory mode and A/B between the empty patch and your loaded patch.

Thanks for the tip. Not sure if i am interrupting this correctly but i would still have to move across other patches in patch memory to select the empty patch. Is there a way select or A/B patches without scrolling through the patch memory.

It’s all in the manual, but in summary, you scroll through the patches and then select the ones to get letters (A, B, C etc). Then the footswitch just cycles through the assigned patches. So if you assign the empty patch (eg 001) to A and a loaded patch (eg 049) to B, then pressing the footswitch will alternate between A and B, ie patches 001 and 049 without the need to scroll anything.

Many thanks. Will check it out.

It is amazing how deep the pedal is.

Anyone know if the forthcoming new version is true stereo?

Any feedback from owners about MS-70 CDR+ versus OG version ?

Are the reverbs better or strictly the same ?

Has it been released?
