Ooh, @ThomasJ just now confirms and gives instructions for wavetables work just like this:

It’s super cool that it can do that but with only a single global sample bank of 64 samples I don’t think that approach is practical for most unfortunately, which is why I was thinking about doing a ‘real-time wavetable’ by modulating the balance between different oscillator waveforms, since that tends to be what most wavetables offer.

Nonetheless, the setup he’s showing is cool and powerful enough to merit spending the sample slots on it if you are also using some other sampler for any drum layering you want. Gets the best parts of the PPG/3rd wave sound, though I wish there was a way to change sample banks to at least get like one set of samples for one shots and 8-12 for wavetables. Great work @ThomasJ .

If anyone knows of a good place to find drum transient samples please share. I’d like to supplement those included in the free sample pack. (Edit: wish I’d sampled the ones on DNII when I had it.)

The issue with this approach is that only sample slot 2 loops, for whatever reason. But you could have half the slots be single cycle waves and half be something with envelope settings, at least decay, baked into it. It seems too finicky for me.

Ah, no problem. Just was trying to get more dual VCO style action on my syntakt but if only one sample actually loops it’s also not going to bug me using any of my dozen other synths lol

Yeah I get it, I have a couple custom oscillators loaded into my prologue that blend between wave tables and it’s a really nice sound.

Any chance you could share these?

Just a suggestion (and this is just my opinion). Why use plain transients if you can add the whole drum sample and just quickly crossfade from sample 1 which serves as transient to sample 2 which is the body of the sample (using a fast ramp LFO? Same result but more versatility and variety given how few sample slots the are. This way you would have more total sample material to choose from

Hyping Waft Wave as an unintended glove fit for creating your own 64 bank SC Syntakt wavetables. 64 new synths from one machine. Or D110 PCM style transient on SMP1 - looped body on SMP2, or polyphonic moving 64 wave sculptures when SMP2 pos slides through via an LFO.
I’m really tempted by the ST now and wish i could try some waft waves in it.

Would be cool if someone made an ipad app for quick swapping pre-prepared sample packs into syntakt with one click

I recommend converting the cut waveforms to Note C length using the SCW Resynthesizer.

is sample 2 looping available as a LFO target? Would be cool to be able to modulate this with a slow random LFO to introduce occasional ratches in arp style sequences. Thinking about this since @djst showed the twinshot being used with a nice bass sound and you can’t mod target the retrigger.

I‘m gonna be boring, since I like to keep my samples coherent between devices these days and ST is a workhorse first and foremost:

I‘ve recently prepared a bunch of my favorite DN drum sounds with 16 variations per sound, growing in intensity. I guess I‘ll start by trying out what happens when I throw sample 1 and 16 of a sound into the new machine and then play around with the blend parameter.

Also: hats! I‘ll just import my favorite ST/AR and DN hats so I no longer have to worry about only having one hat track I like on 12. Plus: AR claps!

The choice for the right 64 ones is hard.
But I’ve definitely picked some in @paulcheeba’s free acoustic drum sample pack:

I’m going on with this :

Single shots :
-16 favourite drums (i.e : 808 / CR78 or acoustic and vinyl);
-16 plucks (custom made from vintage synths or from pianos).

Looping sounds :
-16 pads (i.e : Juno 106, string machines, organs);
-16 atmospheric textures (field recordings or custom made from my modular synth).

If you have DN2, you could sample those of FM drum? If you don’t own it, someone could maybe share them?

Currently:
2x vocal chordal samples
2x Textures
6x Synths
18x Snares
7x Rimshots/snaps
6x non-kit perc sounds (grinding, crunching etc. 1-shots)
13x HH (4 of which are specifically open)
1x Clarinet
3x Bass Drum
5x Claps/Snaps
1x cello

I thought i make a folder per project of 64 samples or singlecycles (or 64 frames of wavetables) and name my projects accordingly like Namexyz-F08 (for folder 08).
