Your setups [ 10k Archive]

Yeah! Didn’t know the MS-50G has an amp sim! Makes it even more enticing. It could well be that the sims are shit… But my guitar is a 100 euro Squier, so there’s that.

The zoom sims aren’t amazing but they’re definitely usable. I’ve been using a B3 with my bass for like 2 years on stage because I’m too cheap to buy real pedals, and it’s never let me down for compression, noise gate, slight dirt and tuner.

How do you use turntables and Elektrons together?
The case is DIY?

Tnx,

iPad mini with installed ModStep app, in combination with iConnectMIDI for sequencing all hardware that I have. I’am not guitar player, mostly having fun with electronic music…

I kind of just practice scratching and/or use records as one shot samples or loops.
Currently there is no routing trickery, the :3lektron:'s go into the R channel of the mixer via OT master out.
This particular set up has been the goal for a while, but it’s always in flux a bit.
After jamming like this a few times tho, I really like it.
I’ll probably end up with a Xone92 or something, and get a lil more creative with the routing so I can use OT effects mashing on the vinyl too.
The case is DIY, I never finished it, it was intended to go with some eurorack at the time. I decided I dont eurorack.
It’s supposed to have a faceplate at the top with corresponding jacks etc.
There’s enough room for some things to sit on top, but I actually want to build a new case that has a couple more inches in back, might try to sell this first attempt at a case.

Here’s a couple clips messing with sounds during practice.
Nothing magical, but you get the idea

Here’s my standing noise station. Second level gear can be pushed under the table (Nektar keyboard and Elektrons). We finally reorganized the studio and earlier everything was super cramped. Standing is definitely more fun than sitting while jamming.

what’s the blue fader caps for, if I may ask?

Nice! I see we have similar ideas regarding “DJing”.

That just helps me know where my neighbor tracks are while I’m performing. (Visual aid). It’s painters tape.

It’s a strange divide for me.
The tracks I make on the Elektrons feel more like my own thing, while using a traditional DJ set up to add texture to it, it’s not really DJing to me.
If I get a DJ gig, I just play records.

Not really DJing? why not? Back in the day, some DJs played reel tape “demos” and beefed up the drums with 808s when they wanted more punch to a record. I don’t see the divide myself tbh.

I understand that, but I have just an odd perspective I guess, coming from a background playing in weird bands.
For example, I like hip hop a lot, and to me thats the kind of DJ that inspires me, but the hip hop DJ’s I knew growing up really frowned on FX and such. I always though DJ’s were too simple for that stance. But I played guitar in a band and thought I needed hundreds of FX pedals to make my point. Maybe I didn’t appreciate the value in limitations of gear?
I wouldn’t consider Kraftwerk DJ’s, but maybe they would be if they just came out.
It just poses a strange grey area I think.
I wouldn’t say I feel like I am DJing when I play track on the Elektrons though.
I feels more like what I would try to do in a band.

Well, why couldn’t “DJing” happen in the context of playing in a band? You fear it would feel “incompatible” somehow with that?

Isn’t that just being in a covers band with backing tracks? :pl:

I’m not talking about mixing whole records into a band playing. More like what hiphop DJs and turntablists are doing.

Moving into modular, got one module so far, and it’s still crazy fun haha. Thinking of selling the SH201 to satisfy some major eurorack GAS. Not pictured - iPad, piano and mininova.

The desk is really starting to get crowded. Still need to bring the drum kit downstairs too but yeah, oh how they grow!
