Your Setups (Part 1)

My dream mixer :+1:

it’s really great. they’re expensive af of course. but occasionally deals (relatively speaking) pop up. I think mine was $1300-ish (used).

I love a Speck. Would really dig getting a Lilo. But I would like a few niceties, since it will likely have to do double-duty as a quick n’ dirty tape mixer. Maybe a Midas Venice. Maybe I’ll dig out my old Tascam or Scorpion.

the Midas Venices are indeed excellent. I had a 24 channel one for a while; only gripe was the 60mm faders… cracks me up how you can usually find 24 and 32 channel ones for less than 16 channel ones. I think the 24/36 are just more common and most people don’t really want that many channels. or so I’m guessing…

Are you controlling the PMA-5 with the PG-1000?

The pg 1000 is connected to theD05.
But I will give it a try, thanks for the suggestion.
The pma5 is usually used for playing the flute or bassoon with the stylus plus adlib.

the radio is both for constant sampling source and also has a recorder that records to an sd card should i need it but ive been recording the room more often lately. there is an ALM mmmmidi hidden beneath with clock and 1 v/oct outputs piped to the 2hp patchbay i made, as well as lines to octa ip A/B. still on the fence about bringing out midi and usb connectors to the rear panel but i might do

Discover new things on how powerful just my Virus TI2. I can use it for drums, bass, leads and pads on one box and with Hapax a real wonderful synth if I avoid the computer software. That and my Rytm and Digitone are fantastic besides the Oberheim.

Super cool

Would you briefly explain your sample session workflow and routing? Still getting my legs under me with the SP-16 and I need some ninja skills that you likely possess. Normally I’d just experiment and feel my way around but my 21 month old is de.mand.ing lately so I have very little time for futzing.

How do you find the UC-4? Thinking of getting one (eventually) as a kind of mixer for jamming/performing and macro controls but also considering the EC-4 and cheaper alternatives (Launch Control XL, Midimix)…

My setup at the moment consists of this!

(Excuse the spreadsheet).

The S2400 is used for core song creation. All my own samples and sample libraries are on the SD card and I sample directly to it from Live via USB, which also sends transport and clock. The Nord Drum 2 i(when it’s connected) is controlled by either the S2400 or the Oxi One, or both (Oxi is great for generative patterns and p-locks, the S2400 provided amazing swing and surprisingly powerful and tactile CC controls via the faders).

The Virus is used not only as sample fodder for every kind of sound imaginable, but I also have it set up as a send/return in Live, so I can send any audio I want into it’s distortions and filters, vintage modes, reverbs, tape delay, you name it.

The Jomox T-Resonator II is my secret weapon. If you know, you know.

The APC40 Mk2 doesn’t get used much but when it does, it’s indispensable. The faders and knobs are useful for composing and mixing, and the crossfader is super useful for all sorts of applications. Plus those squishy pads are great for triggering clips, playing entire scenes, stopping clips within a scene, you name it. My Live template consists of two ‘decks’ which have an A and a B track on them, which I crossfade between for smooth transitions.

I could give a very step-by-step workflow breakdown but I doubt that peeps on this thread would want to read it :upside_down_face:

But I could put something like that up on the SP-16 thread, or just in a private DM.

My setup after a complete rehaul of the room. Almost done now… Painted the room and put some paintings on the walls. Also bought a Jaspers stand which was a huge upgrade. My intention is to have room on the table to be able to rotate gear a bit, and at first the vacant space will be filled by the Rytm mk2. The place next to the two OTOs is reserved for my Analog Heat. Also, the idea is to use no more than two pieces of gear at a time. After using one-machine setups for most of the past year, I already have a lot of ideas which pieces I want to try together. I believe this is going to be a very happy place for me in the coming months and years.

Man… I scored big time from @Scot_Solida and his efforts to let go of gear before relocating to a new studio space. I knew about the Tascam and Zoom… the tapes and awesome recording book were a double-bonus. Bloody hell! What a guy.

And what an amazing community this is.

Got a temporary setup going on my coffee table for a Industrial noise/ambient project. I think it’s too many voices to run all at once but I will give it try LOL.

Still not a fan of the Shik tech controller… It’s nice and cheap but the knobs/pots kinda feel like it… may be swapping it out for a faderfox device for better control… Still keep trying with it!

Also as always loads of FX in ableton!
