I have a Mikrokorg and hate the cryptic menu system but love the sounds. Pain in the arse to program.
You are aware that we are talking about the miniKORG here?
Yes sir it was side reference to Korg products in general
not really a fair criticism/comparison, IMHO… the miniKorg was Korg’s first synth, made almost 30 years before the microKorg. the original mini is all analog, with one knob per function. the re-release of it is as well, and only adds a digital flavor in the form of midi+USB I/O, and ten buttons that store and recall presets. no screens, menus or matrices. the micro was all digital, and the opposite of one knob per function. editing it was an exercise in matrix and hidden menu editing via a set of seven knobs for about a hundred different parameters. a completely different experience, basically. it’s still an awesome synth though!
Happy holidays Elektronauts. Hope all reading this are well. I have finally got my latest setup to a reasonable place so thought I would share it here!
I recently moved house and it’s taken some time to get setup again. After several months all in all I am now in a good place with this spare bedroom setup. It’s a small room but I like the size. The blue mountains were already a feature when we moved in and yes, they are staying .
I do have other machines but this is the most I like to have out at any one time really. I guess I kind of have a ‘creation space’ if you like with the left hand table being where I build the rhythmic aspects of tracks and jam ideas, and the central desk being more studio/recording focused. The Yamaha Reface runs into the Quadraverb, but can also be a midi controller to the Roland JV 1080, or for Ableton via USB. It’s great for adding layers or additional synth parts over the top of the stereo recordings I get from the Octatrack.
Overall the workflow is working well. Hoping to complete an albums worth of material in the first half of 2023 with this setup, so will see how it goes.
Big love to all
It’s been a long time coming to this setup. Off screen is an MPC Live, Mutable modules, an OP1 and a Lemondrop, but the Elektrons are the main song-making chain.
The 16 track setup, half drums/samples, half synth, is pretty nicely balanced.
With the Digitone and Digitakt working almost identically, the workflow is almost unified. The A4 is similar, but with an extra layer of complexity.
I paid only slightly more (£20) for my Digitone+Digitakt as I did for my A4. If I only had half the money, I would go for the Digi combo mainly because of 16 voices vs 4.
I guess many can’t afford it. It’s expensive for what it is. A luxury item for sure.
Some will call it a luxury item (and it is), others will call it a necessity item because it brings back memories and sounds absolutely unique and fantastic.
thinned the herd over the last 2 years. modular became a new roof and other stuff. other bits slipped away here and there. now just the 2 classics/favs and laptop/ipad stuffed w/software
Absolutely, I’m not questioning its beauty. I used to own a 770 Just pointing out a possible reason for slow sales.
Case is now finished. MIDIHub/Controller is done in its 2nd Version and working awesome. (Just need angled USB Cables for it). Having USB Host available makes it awesome to quickly extend the case (in this case with the OXI One for generative sequencing).
Oh yeah, and to the right, not much to see here… just a Cwejman.
My hotel room setup for the day. Apparently the word “portable” meant something different in the era when Moogs and Rhodes’ reigned the roads.
what, you didn’t want to leave them in the car!?!
“just” a cwejman haha!
not really a setup, but a major milestone.
a test of my ghetto stereo made of two old portable speakers (JBL On Tour).
100% wired and battery powered. which means — suitable for jams and rehearsals (unlike bluetooth stuff) even during blackouts (that are the new normal here in Ukraine).
zero soldering – adaptors only. (of course, i have spares!)
it works – double left channel in the white one, double right channel in the black one.
travel kit! setup takes about 5 minutes, they travel unplugged with decksavers and packing blankets.
You are going to tell us the story behind this at some point, aren’t you?
seems like a good travel setup!
might i ask what case this is?
