Has anybody tried the Intellijel 1u crossfaders? Are they as smooth as the Octatrack ones? I have a slightly unorthodox controller setup I want to try with them…
I have not had an octatrack, but it was smooth as butter when I had one.
I believe it uses 96khz sampling rate which is almost certainly higher than the interface on the Elektron devices. In fact its prob the cleanest output compared to all the more expensive clones out there. So that might explain it.
Hey, did anyone upgrade from Pam‘s new workout to Pam‘s pro workout? Does it worth the upgrade?
I love Pams New Workout for many years, just wished the internal clock would be a bit more stable. But the real problem is, that as I grow older, it has become more and more dificult to read the display with red letters.
The display is better on pro workout, you have also color themes to choose from some having better contrast than others.
Personally the upgrade and the added features makes it worth. Specially things like FLEX ops (basically smooth modulation of the clock per channel so you can be way off grid but still fall on beat). Clock behaves very good for me, maybe need to adjust some ms the cv out from a DAW but that’s something you will always have with that workflow. Standalone is dead steady.
Latest iteration of my 9U 126hp Case from Lake setup. No big changes apart from a recently acquired BIA which is actually NOT competing with my SY0.5. I have been playing a lot with the TipTop Z2040 and it actually works wonders with BIA/SY0.5/SampleDrum. Using the Doepfer A-106-5 SEM in HPF boosting Q to find the right “knock” for Battering Ram. Also works wonders ![]()
Now thinking about how to set up a send FX mixing routing with my current mixers: Doepfer A-138i (which is a really nice swiss knife of routing) and the Eowave Supamix… Not keen on investing in a big mixer right now.
Desmodus Versio flashed to Electus at the moment. FX Aid XL with a reverse reverb doing tricks on BIA.
Readability is a major plus. I have the Pro on my semi-modular corner because it’s easier to read in its fixed location.
I’m still using PNW in a smaller setup where the module is super close and easy to read.
Also check that you have the latest PNW firmware. They did address clock in one of the updates.
New modules. Love the Schlappi stuff. Can’t wait to play around with the Morph 4.
Still want to get an Orbit 3 and maybe a couple Nibblers. Need to work on learning these first!
Received the power-bank, 2.5 hour’s playtime with 100% charge. Perfect.
Curious for peoples opinion about the following.
I’m quite curious about modules like the Bohm+expanders or the Forge TME Vhikk. Modules that seem to sound great and could help you quickly to acheave a certain goal/sound live. Like the techno rumble that seems to easily be achieved with the Bohm expander, or the atmospheric techno textures/pads of the Vhikk.
But at the same time it’s holding me back that I’m a bit afraid that they’re too much one-trick ponies that kinda take away skill or creativity towards those aims/goals.
Not interested in creating a flash war here, just curious to hear from people with those or similar example modules/gear, and if your experience is that they made your music sound more generic and same-y, or that in the end they’re still just tools that you can make sound like your own, or at least that they inspire you enough creatively after a while or not?
Kaona Fresh Hot Air Expeller
Fresh expels hot air in record time using a powerful vertical fan and then maintains a comfortable temperature for your modules.
At maximum speed, the internal temperature drops several degrees in just a few minutes. Then, even at minimum speed, the gentle ventilation maintains a constant and quiet airflow.
At its lowest speed, Fresh is almost inaudible; at full power… it’s incredibly loud! (but the wind noise is easily masked by the music).
Thanks to its compact 2HP design and 45mm depth , you can install it right next to heat sources—power supplies or particularly energy-intensive modules. Discreet, efficient, and reliable, Fresh keeps your system running smoothly. Say goodbye to Saturday night fever!
No CV over fan speed? ![]()
VCO-FAN is down the hall and on your left.
I have not looked closely at the Bohm because I have a couple of percussion-related modules already, and better options outside the case. But I have spent time investigating the Vhikk X, because I like the sounds it makes, a lot. I came close to buying one, but supply issues slowed me down, and by the time I had a chance at a couple of extended sessions with it at Superbooth, I had already decided against purchasing it. My main reason is one you allude to: it’s hard to do deliberate and repeatable sound design with it. I’ve heard demos where people nail it down enough to use it as an element in conjunction with other gear, but at that point it isn’t making unique sounds any more. Otherwise it tends to be like a bucking bronco, or whitewater rafting; one has to hang on and try to not get thrown. It is only technically riding; you’re not really in control. It reminds me a lot of Lyra-8 in this respect (there is some sonic overlap as well, though they are very different devices). If someone gave me one of either, I would take it out occasionally and drone away for an hour. I think I would have trouble getting it to play well with others.
I really enjoyed this - it’s always good to get an insight into the background and methodology for a module as interesting as the Vhikk X seems to be.
I have the same questions. Mainly on Vhikk, because i don’t have no more any ki k/perc modules from my case (even if bohm kick and others had my attention hooked)
The Vhikk appeals me very hers. But since i’m in modular, i have experience about how to stop gas. My doubt about this module rely on two points :
First, as @plragde wrote, i’m not sure being hable to lead this module where i want and how i want. So, going from good surprise to bad one on the same session isn’t things i like. When i drone, i do really enjoy the mood i work on : it can act as meditation, relaxing moment or industrial hard sound. Whatever the style, loosing the mood just because i gently moove a parameter without wanted a drastic change is thing that drive me far from the instrument. I hate being brutaly awake, too hard for me. And thiscis my fear/doubt about Vhikk.
Secondly, because we blip, because I already have lot of modular, i think i can/must do as nice as Vhikk with my actual modules. Buy a module that is too specialised, what i call "complex module’, that is a compilation of modules i already have or already could patch is not what i think being modular way of music, but more like desktop precabled synth.
I simply think that, in the same range of price, an Hydrasynth is way more interesting to bring me in the same sounds aera, and more other places too.
That’s the way i think the Vhikk anti GAS way of life. But, as i’m often charmed by all in one solution, i must admit that finding a really non expensive Vhikk could make me buy it… a really low price buy only.
I’m not a modular samouraï that would only live in the modular spirit of patching every little module until construct the ultimate tool, but i think it’s a good modular approach to be abble to construct oriented synth with my proper modules. That what makes me buy modules, their plasticity and multi role in a patch.
Was thinking about pulling the trigger on this intellijel FX rack. I’d feed it my synths or use it as a granular mangler. Would love feedback, as I’m rusty having been out of modular for years!
This looks fun but I would think about adding more modulation sources if you don’t have another rack or semimodular to use with it. But it depends on how you’d like to use it. I like modulating delays but not reverbs for example.
