Modular Power Bank Question:
I have a Damaru 104 travel case which is rated at:
12V 2500mA, -12V 2500mA, +5V 2000mA, 70W
This MyVolts Power bank seems to fit the bill. myVolts 100W Slimline PD Power Bank
Have I got my science wrong?
Iām using modular & Pocket Scions as part of a workshop & Iād like to take it outside. Thanks for any help!
What I canāt tell from the myVolts page is how much amperage it delivers at various voltages. This is printed in small print on the power bank I have. If you have the case I think you have, youāre using a Meanwell power brick which delivers 18V at 70W. Thatās 3.33A (though itās not clear the case needs that much). So the myVolts would have to be able to negotiate that voltage and deliver that amperage. I think you need more research to be sure.
Thanks, Iāve contacted Elevator Sounds (where they are made) and they seem to think it would be good. They are just going to check a few things before confirming. Iāll report back in case anyone else is interested.
Excellent service from Elevator Sounds as usual:
They have confirmed:
Yep that should be okay. Youāre almost there with the power cable, but youāll need it to be a 19VDC adapter. Something like a myVolts Step Up 19V on the end of a USB-C cable will do the trick alongside this.
I noticed today (via a display ad, ick) that Signal Sounds have opened a European outpost (in Warsaw, no showroom, but they ship from there) like Elevator Sound did earlier (they have a storefront in Barcelona, though I have not been). This is good news for those of us in the EU, since Signal Sounds are active in distribution (e.g. Forge-TME and Vhikk X).
A couple of major acquisitions visible in this shot. In the small Pod64x below, fancysynthesis k-Accumulator dominates. This is pretty hard to get hold of, and I was lucky to have been at my laptop when an in-stock notification came in, allowing me to respond immediately. I donāt think itās on a showroom floor anywhere in the world right now; there are only a few demos from the manufacturer, and a brief quickstart guide but no manual (there are some field demos from users, but letās just say that I wouldnāt have put them out if Iād made them). Fortunately, it sounds great, and is really rewarding right from the jump. Itās a digital dual-Daisy architecture (with separate power connections) with a main oscillator (sine/cosine outputs, and yes, youāll get those if everything else is zeroed out), a modulating oscillator, a function generator, and a shift-register-based sequence generator (both the latter two can get into audio range and are meant to). Think 21st-C FM/PM/AM but with explicit harmonic manipulation reminiscent of additive synthesis. I have it in a learning skiff, but for the first couple of days, I didnāt do any patching, not even internal (there are clever normalizations); I just turned knobs, pressed buttons, flicked switches. Really quite stunning.
In the upper case, the new arrival is the Venus Instruments Veno-Orbit, a dual looper. I did get a chance to try this before purchase, at Superbooth, and talk to the designer. Again, there are relatively few demos (though good ones from DivKid and Tom Churchill) but consensus seems to be that they got the UI right, compared to the competition. I am not by nature a live looper (though it has always intrigued me) and I was reassured by what I saw in the demos of both freeform and clocked looping. The two sides can be linked for stereo or be independent; each side has four layers, with cross-fading between adjacent layers (also controllable cross-fades for each loop); overdub with controllable decay (Frippertronics) is possible; and, in addition to one-shots and loops, there is a 4-voice polyphonic mode (note the TRS-A MIDI in). I think this is exactly what I needed in this case, with three great sound sources but not quite enough firepower to drive them all in full generality. But it is going to require some practice to attain fluency. Iām looking forward to it. (Oh, and it is DC-coupled, so can record and play back / manipulate CV!)
I just purchased the new Deja Vu from Bastl.
I might even need more little utilitys in the future, and now this 4hp black little module on your pic grabbed my attention, just found out its called Junction from acid rain.
How are the potis, are they solid?
It is indeed the Acid Rain Junction, and I bought it specifically to revitalize the Doepfer quad LFO, which is great for unsynced LFOs, but needs attenuation, which isnāt always available at the target (though it is on k-Accumulator, the main target in this configuration). The knobs are standard trimmers, but theyāre really solidly mounted. In contrast, thereās some wiggle on the trimmers on the much more expensive k-Accumulator. None on the Junction.
[Edit: I went to the Bastl booth at Superbooth intending to check out Deja Vu, but it was too crowded; I barely got a crack at Kalimba, and only because one at the very edge of the display was suddenly abandoned (everything else was occupied). Another similar utility I purchased recently was Klawis Tweakers, but only because I had exactly 3hp left in a case due to the ADDAC 112 taking up 45hp, and that was perfect. And I also recently bought the 2hp Pindsvik TLBX, but only because I wanted LIFO and shipping from them was 50⬠(?!), but for another 50⬠I could get TLBX, which has a really clever design, so why not. A second LIFO would probably have been more useful, but I am a sucker for clever designs.]
Just got another Three Bodyā¦missed it so much. That and a Boundary layer with a Joranalogue Morph 4 and and Oxi One mk2. Guess I should have spent my bonus money on bills but we only live once!!!
Itās an ADDAC 901F, 6u x 85hp, lightweight aluminum with built-in power supply (C5 cord, no external brick). I bought one soon after coming to Lisbon; I took the subway to pick it up in person, since ADDAC HQ is here. Itās a nice size, and I am contemplating getting a second one, since both my Pods are now full and I have a growing collection of unracked modules. Itās 330ā¬. (I did a search yesterday and many of the alternatives seem to be in the 800⬠and up range!)
Itās still early days, and k-Accumulator keeps distracting me. Iāve liked what Iāve done with it so far, but I have ambitions I havenāt tested yet.
+1 for the Morph4. Such a wonderful module.
I opted for Cycle5, Generate3 and Morph4. Tons to explore.
But iam still interested in the 3Body. Maybe i will try it in some time.
I have an Eurorack with many behringer clones. Today after a period using only DTII/DNII I have connected the Brain and inserted into the combo and it cut the mixes like sword!
Is it me or this module sound so crisp and clean in comparison with the Digitone 2?
