Your modulars (Part 2)

@mynewcolour - yeah, not eurorack (larger than 3U) but it will work with eurorack signals for all CV, and can take eurorack audio on the inputs (adjustable pot to manage levels), plus it can take line level too and amp that to eurorack. Is eurorack-friendly a thing?

@digiwut - they seem to take much of what exists with Lubadh and Morphagene, with at least the stated intention of making something better. I have never touched Lubadh, but drool every time I see it. I do plan on comparing it to Morphagene, but from the videos it looks like it’ll do many of the things I wish a Make Noise desktop based on Morphagene could do.

I’m trying to temper my expectations, as the full functionality is still a WIP, but rebellions are built on hope, so here’s to hoping it is everything I want it to be.

i can recommend Monotrail Tech Talk. https://www.youtube.com/@MonotrailTechTalk
lots more talk about the how to use modules past the fixed architecture synths and less about new module shilling :joy:

I find the Monotrail channel super useful.

The pacing is great and I almost always come away with something to try or use as a jumping-off point.

The visual diagrams are very helpful for me. I’m stupid until I see a diagram (then I’m still stupid, but with a diagram!).

I will note that for anyone tempted by the ALM Turismo that it’s currently available for about 15% off ($630) at Perfect Circuit via their Memorial Day sale.

Pittsburgh Voltage Lab 2 is 18% off.

Hey there folks, just uploaded a big demo of the amazing and wild Itinera filter by Euterpe:

Got the Cre8audio Assembler. Did a lil first write-up about it in the dedicated Assembler and Boomchick thread, so far I really like it.

Racked in a 84hp skiff which I can easily put in a backpack, which solves the last step of my live setup: everything else except my mixer fits in a rolling Peli Case I have. With one CAT cable I can route all 6 of my synth/drum voices from my 6U modular into this prepatched mixer! Including a send-return into a third fx module that I have in my 6U case, sidechained in a vca over there. All via one (8-channel) CAT cable. Used the same to my previous mixer - via Doepfer a180-8. Also nice to have delay and reverb in this 84hp mixer skiff, which means I don’t have to bring my bigger BIM and SPACE pedals with separate power supplies and added weight/fuss. (Although especially BIM is super central to my setup for the years so whenever I can I’ll bring it:)

Have you experienced any issues w/audio over CAT? Doepfer’s webpage on the A-180-9 Multicore makes it sound like crosstalk is a possibility. Or should I read that as an overly conservative warning on Doepfer’s part as long as I used a good shielded Cat7/8 cable?

I was also curious about this when I got it. I did hear some crosstalk when overamplifying some tracks. But in practice it does bother me. When I have both adjoining channels on, then obviously I don’t hear the subtle crosstalk. And when I don’t have audio on a channel, I never keep that channel open anyways, so no issue with crosstalk anyways. Basically in my practical use it was never an issue; but if you’ve got a sensitive recording situation it might pick some minor crosstalk up.

You could also leave some of the 8 Cat cable inputs on the Doepfer module empty. When I was using only 5 of the inputs at first; I kept an empty input between my most sensitive voices.

But simply put, in practice when I’m using a voice it’s too loud to hear some very very subtle crosstalk from the voice next to it. And when not using a voice I have that mixer channel turned down anyways. If that makes sense.

Get a good shielded cat cable (I got cat7 or cat8 I believe). Length also matters, and mine are only a meter and a half anyways. More issues with long cable lengths supposedly.

I am also curious about this and was considering After Later Audio’s Light Rail.

It comes with a CAT7e 3’ cable.

1 . If you are after a different longer/shorter cable, you will get the best performance with CAT7e as it offers the shielding, which is used for the ground.
2. While the cross channel bleed is minimal, you will notice some very minor cross talk between the channels.

Hi Noob Question

Ive just received a Jomox ModBase09 Mk II but its missing the Power Cable are all flat ribbon 16:16 pin cables the same or do they need to specifically say Eurorack

I wanted to buy on amazon uk use prime for next day but cant seem to find one

Thanks

I guess the ultimate solution, but expensive, is to get two Boredbrain Optx v2:

I’m very pleased with my Optx v2 for sending CV and audio back and forth between my monster rack and my Push 3, but I think the Doepfer Multicore (or the After Later solution) probably fits the bill well enough for short runs / live situations.

BTW, I read variable things about After Later’s quality when I read posts on ModWiggler. For example, it seems like there were some serious problems with the first version of their Bartender mixer, so that less than a year later they’ve already rolled out a V2. Anyone here have any experience good or bad?

All the same. Just basic electronic cables. Strangely can’t find them as singular tho. This is a 2-pack:

Thanks
