Your modulars (Part 1)

Thanks!

You can? I thought it was a paid module in VCV or via a premium VCV account.

oops sorry yeah it’s paid!

I have both! I will say, I have not had any QC issues with my Oneiroi, but maybe I got lucky.
They are both really fun modules, but If I had a small case dedicated to looping/fx/drones, I would keep the Oneiroi, as it does quite a bit. Multiple oscillators, a wavetable oscillator that is derived from the looper (very glitchy and not smooth. I like it), reverb, delay, and resonator, so it does a lot.
One weird thing to note is that the oscillators have built in slew on the tracking. They will always glide to the next cv value.

One last test patch.

Arp from the Arturia, used the DNII to record it and add a touch of reverb.

The stupid robovacuum was not used.

woah sounds great! that white box in the corner, is that the power supply? If so, why it’s separate?

Ugh, 2HP Modules are so great wtf …

Yes, that’s the PSU. This is the way most Serge supplies are done. It’s also a fairly large linear power supply (not switching with DC-DC converters) so it needs a bit of space for the large toroidal transformer, and to dissipate a bit of heat. It’s all milled aluminum like the module panels, so it passes heat from the inside fairly well.

Each row has its own power distribution in the box, and that is fed by each one of the separate larger cables coming in from the PSU. Those are locking 4-pin XLR connectors, so they snap in, and disconnect with a button press.

The supply will power this case obviously, or other Loudest Warning format 4U modulars (up to three full panels) or with a different connector on the internal side other Random*Source, STS or Serge panels as well.

R*S and LW use the same connectors. STS does not, but can be adapted.

You can buy these orange (and other) boats with internal DC-DC converters, and then use an external wall-wart/line-lump type supply. I actually do this for smaller one to two boat setups as it simplifies things a bit.

I’ll have an example of a smaller one to post soon actually.

This power supply will also work with Euro. I have a few different types of distribution board that can go with it. One that’s all MOTM style MTA-156, one that has Euro headers, and one that has Euro, MOTM and Mu-Synth.Com style MTA-100.

I also make one that has a separate +5V rail on the same board, so that it can power those rails that rare Euro modules need, and some other oddballs out there. All my modules have regulated rails and precision voltage references on their PCBs though, so not needed with my own modules.

If I can find a closer pic of the supply, I’ll post it.

I think it kinda got leaked:

Very intriguing. I’m not sure what I want or expect from Make Noise these days but always happy to see new interesting CV sources.

I have had the Verbos Delay for a year and now I’ve added the bark and harmonic, loving the verbos vibe, amazing soundscapes… thinking about the random one

that’s a fantastic bit of kit right there. always preferred the dpo to the verbos co, which felt like it liked to get congested in the lower mids area. soundscapes for days

i have high praises for the verbos random sampling - i even preferred it to the 266e when i had one. the asr is too fun and the metallic noize is perfect for any kind of techno.

definitely need to rebuy the bark filter sometime too. such a sweet sound with that one

I don’t think I have seen a full 17" panel of yours before, that’s super cool. Beautiful system!

Thank you so much! Yeah, I used to make them quite a bit, but just like buying a full panel, committing to building one can sometimes stretch me a bit thin, and then my build schedules get crazy.

I did enjoy making that one though, so I’m taking them on again, but keeping it to one panel at a given time, and generally halting single modules until it’s done.

I have a hard time saying no when people get as excited as I do tossing ideas around for a build or system. Then I take on way too much, and it takes me a year to complete it. Then I feel horrible for making someone wait those types of timeframes.

I’ve been much better about keeping things where they should be now.

Here are a few that I made in the past:

I’m using DPO right now, I like it for the most part but I want to try some other complex osc, the verbos one in primis but also CS-L and the Frap Tools one.
DPO for me works for ambient and very lush sounds (it’s like the Strymon Shimmer of Complex Oscillators)

Interesting…seems like 8 Tracks playing back the same Recording buffer, tape-looping but for CV!
