Your modulars (Part 1)

Absolutely agree with what you stated on Triton. It is just an outsider that I am lurking at

Edit: I just nees a basic VCO with analog feel

Then I would suggest Intellijel Dixie II+, 8hp.

I’m sure Triton is well built and sounds good (I have not listened to any demos), but there are plenty of contenders at that size that don’t cost as much. The lack of sines is curious. You can do FM with triangles and even saws, but it is not as clean. Perhaps Dave Rossum was annoyed at having to shape a triangle core into a sine. For the purest analog sines, you need a self-oscillating filter.

You can get 8 Plaits with an Oxi Coral!

Going to have a look at the Dixie II

II+! I have the II, it is smaller (6hp), not as fully-featured, and most importantly, discontinued.

The upcoming Joranalogue Cycle 5 looks promising especially if you’ve got limited HP. No PWM , but variable waveforms.

Joranalogue modules are well-engineered and always have at least something unusual to offer. It might be worth waiting for this one.

I really like the Nano Ona…had two of those for awhile as basic but solid VCO’s.

Coral was a very different experience for me than a full 12hp Dedicated Plaits module.
Let’s just say I didn’t have the Coral very long before it went to a new home.

Yes, it’s a lot different for sure…reviewers always point out it’s like having 8 Plaits. I personally never liked Plaits, had it many times in many racks. The Coral I do like a bit more because of the multi timbrality and reverb and chorus.

Yeah I like the idea of having musically sounding “switch-based” VCOs rather than Coarse + Fine Tune as a module option. In the same way I prefer a VCA to be attached to the end of every filter module.

Does anyone know if VCV rack perform seamlessly under the latest ARM chip for windows laptop/pc?

Imo Plaits has the best sounding Kick drum algo out there.
i usually stack the AUX and normal output into channel 2-3 of vortices which has a fader between the two channels. the normal output has softer sound to it and the aux has a more wodden sound and together they sound really heavy, punchy without being clicky. and then i just dial in how i want the KB to sound by fading between the channels

Hi Elektronauts,
maybe you can help me.

I experiment with phaser drums recently
using an SQ 1 and a Moogerfooger 103, as shown in a video by Hainbach.
Now I added a DFAM to try other cv signals as audio source.

got some interesting results, but some signals other than gate/trigger
seem to be much hotter and drive the phaser really hard.
I pushed it even further and put the input drive to 9 o’clock.

Had to stop at this point, because I’m concerned this will
kill the moogerfooger.

I thought you modular people are more experienced with this
kind of stuff, that’s why I ask here:

How far can I go with this, will my moogerfooger die when
I crank up the drive knob even further?

Short answer: no

Longer answer: GO FOR IT

While I am not certain of this, I would be very surprised if you could break a Moogerfooger with a hot input. At worst it will clip (which you might like the sound of, who knows).

You can find a better answer on the Moog forums, for example:

The linked thread is about CV into CV input, but I go with CV into audio input.
But you are right, I should ask this on the Moog forum or ask Moog directly. I’m just a bit lazy here, hehe.

Yeah I know the moogs can take a lot, but the LED is deep red
with the drive knob down already, when I go to 9 o’clock it distorts
a lot, much more distortion I ever heard out of a moogerfooger - sounds great but I’m not sure if this is healthy for the Moog.

ortho remote can control basically anything within the nerdseq :dancing_women:

using it to scroll the cursor position (data input to happen at certain places) and it’s great! :relieved:

the size and smoothness is top notch
