Your modulars (Part 1)

It lost connection for lack of power. On fluctuations all the modules dim, pitch shifts, volume drops. My ER-301 screen dips WAY down to 1/3 brightness when it happens.

But yes, any mods that require firm updates are all up to date.

That sucks. Did you get in contact with PM?
Other options check the power cable obviously, have you tried a different outlet?

Could also be a module that’s acting up. Try isolating the problem by taking modules out.

Oooo man. Thats a sentence that sets me off. The “testing modules” thing. I’ve tried every iteration. Pulling one out putting it back trying another…
Every socket in the house. Tried a power conditioner, diff cable…everything. Like I said I spend more time troubleshooting than noise making. This shits supposed to be fun. I mean you don’t pay a shitload of cash to be fixing something you bought. Unless it’s DIY  but the price is nicer on DIY

Well thanks for chiming in. I gotta step away for a bit. Sleep. If anyone has had any kind of similar experience and resolution, please give me your insight.

Night-night.

If it’s the same as the EP-270 and 420, there’s a board that connects the PSUs to the buss boards - the contacts on those can get dirty/oxidized. Unplug the power ,and let the PSUs discharge, then undo the screws on the PSUs holding the bridge boards down, lift them up, spray a small bit of contact cleaner into the connectors between the bus boards and bridge boards, press them back on and lift them off a few times, the put everything back together, and see if that helped/made a difference.

Hey there folks ! I got a 281t this week and made a video about it, mostly the OR outputs that I think are one of the most under rated function of the module. Here you go:

good suggestion thanks.

so I tried that, WHILE leaving out power hogs, or modules that I thought might be the ones causing an issue. and have been letting it run. JUST as I was thinking that was it…I got a drop. lost volume.
all the mods I had with screens are out, so less of a visual indication. but becoming barely audible, then the volume coming back was the same issue I had before.

the ONLY other thing I can think of would be having the ES-8 which in connected to my computer via USB 2, and the FH-2 connected via USB 3. but I think thats reaching. ive seen racks with made numbers of ZZZ modules it there. so…not sure what to think at this point. but I still think I shouldn’t have to pay for something ive been working years on to try to get to work. [ive been back in forth with them a fair bit, and this last message I sent was fairly stern. ive hit a wall and just dont get to have any fun with this]

Do you get drops when the ES-8 is out?
My only other suggestion would be adding your modules one by one. Then if it you get a power drop, try leaving that module out? Or, that may be the limit of power your supply is giving. Did everything work fine for a while and now it’s having problems?

it was werking…but I always had dimming in the screen of the ER-301, for example. I thought it was to do with the ER-301. but with what’s happening im thinking otherwise.

I HAVE done every iteration of mods in / out / diff combos etc…for years actually. im either TOTALLY dim myself, or just incredibly unlucky. so many folks just seem to be able to plug and play, while I have months of back and forth’s with manufactures. which really makes me think its gotta be me. I dont hear of anyone having as many issues as I have. but I will say, I am KING of buying stuff that comes broken. I wont get into THAT list right now.

anyways, thanks for the help AGAIN to all that responding. I gotta step away for a while. this isn’t doing me any good.

thanks.

It sounds like either a component in the PSU or on the bus boards is crapping out under heat, or there’s an intermittent short somewhere. If it’s the latter, it’s likely a module power cable or a module itself.

I never post but I used to have a Pittsburgh case (EP-208) and I used to have problems with some modules touching the metal brackets on the side of the case (sorry English isn’t my main language). I had to make sure to leave a small gap between the side of case and my modules. Also when I used multiple cases I always plugged at least two cables between the other case and my EP-208. It seemed like it grounded it or something. Anyway good luck with the troubleshooting

I ordered a Rene 2 from Perfect about 3 months ago. The guy there told me MN was having order fulfillment challenges even before the pandemic.
They’re cool peeps making great stuff. Weirdly, I kind of like the challenge of trying to find niche electronics. It feels much more fun the just picking up the latest iPhone from any store.

What about this as a first eurorack? Anything obvious I’m missing?

Need some Juno in there so got 2 DCO’s with 2 VCF’s, Dual LFO’s, Dual ADSR and VCA mixer.

1 super voice to beat them all so Deckard Dream with Ring modulator maybe?

To get some poly going on I think the Poly Cinematic might do a fantasic job.

For sampling Bitbox Micro is probably the king? (or should I leave space and go for Blackbox?)

FX will be just 2 modules but I think they cover enough. Strymon Starlab & TipTop ModFX.

For drums I went with the Linndrum module and the crazy Basimilus.

Maths & Disting EX cause they are so versatile and musthaves according to must people.

Befaco for some Barcelona love. AC/DC as audio interface and Out for headphones.

As for clock and sequencers. Pamela’s new workout, Mimatic Digitalis and the Metropolix.

Looks nice. What do you plan to use for mixing?

Can’t add more to this rack (it’s Eurorack Go size) So I’m thinking going for the 1010Music Bluebox.

I count six voices plus the Poly Cinematic and S-LD. That’s a lot for two rows, even if they are long rows. It feels light on modulation, mixing, utilities. I’m having trouble guessing at the reasons for many of your choices. Can you explain your design philosophy?

I edited the post to be more clear.
