Your modulars (Part 1)

I think EQ on Euro mixers, especially performance mixers, is hard to come by (Hexmix is a beast if you want the Hexpander for sends etc). Everyone seems to say mix outside the ‘box’, but for performance cases I wish it was included in Euro mixers more…

I feel you. Especially low cuts would be nice and important. Just watched my rme analyser after using optomix and other filter / vcas. And the lowest band at 25 hz was jumping around line grazy. I think this is cv that gets into audio circuit an if if you sum it up using a lof of voices … in a live situation. Well you will define bass music as a new genre.

Yeah I definitely understand why the say that. Hexmix is nice but it also looks a bit exhausting to overlook. I wonder if just having a compact equalizer or two like a Tritone on Send/Return would be enough to create contrast in the mix whenever needed.

The Shakmat Hi-pass is something I might use to help there (2 bands of cut, 30 and 100 HZ), but I agree, using strikes on LPG’s and my Instruo wavefolder thumps that low end.

How easy is it to change faceplates on modules? I’m asking because I intended to buy PNW and Zadar but I don’t want the silver in my case.
Have already found a black faceplate for Zadar but no luck yet with the PNW… any links if they exist?

Thanks

So you just want to go straight from an EQ module to your interface inputs? There are lots of small EQ modules; just put as “Function” in ModularGrid “Equalizer”.

But I agree that EQing is not very cost and HP efficient; modular in general usually prioritizes other concerns.

Yeah I’m trying to figure out how to blend signals as much as possible while performing without getting overwhelmed and still end up with 4-6 channels of recorded audio that I can later tweak with some decent amount of flexibility. Dont think I’m looking after surgical precision in the case so It can definitely be a bit raw. I’m therefore now thinking rather than having one EQ on each channel I could just focus on the routing in the case, either with mixers or even passive switches whenever I know I want to take one of my sound sources through the EQ to separate it in the mix.

But yeah I enjoy feeling a bit lost at the moment. Just need to pick a direction and try some things out.

I had separate cases for a while, FX case, drum case, and then two bigger synth and modulation cases. It worked pretty well, but I just consolidated them all into one huge case and the workflow improvements were a lot better than I was expecting.

Here’s a black kit for Pams.

It’s very easy to change panels, but be very careful taking the jack nuts off on Pams, it’s really easy to swipe a head off one of the LEDs.

Ooh wow, the lxr in euro format. Really interesting!

So each voice has an internal lfo. But 5 cv inputs for the amount of voices might be to limiting… on paper seems like a brilliant concept!

oh boy, I’ve been dreading Superbooth, I really need to get a handle on my GAS.

The new XAOC Sofia looks very tempting.

I really want to see an extended demo going through the theory of how :point_up_2: works. Their new frequency shifter also looks interesting. I wonder if it is analog or digital.

Otherwise I hope Frap Tools will finally show something new that isn’t part of their mixer series.

I totally feel you on that, to the point that I make and sell a lot of black panels now!
It’s very easy if you have some patience and the correct tools. If you want, you can check out my black panels here as well, I have one already for Pam’s, and the pexp-2 expander is coming in a couple of weeks. https://morkmodules.com/

Also, I gladly take suggestions from anyone on what black panels to do next!

I have been drooling over this one. It would be a nice partner to my newly acquired Westlicht PerFormer!

In celebration of 2 years of saving, shopping, MGing, waiting, losing lotteries, panic buying, rinse and repeating to a full rack, I Thonked it out. Not insignificant, quality of wiggling upgrades.

Edit: little noodling. A ways to go yet on how best to get everything working together, but getting to what I had been hearing.
