You have to press REC button twice to stop recording multiple sources!? Finally figured out why I cannot stop recording!

You know when you’re staring at the little “+” and you’re wondering why the hell it’s still recording… you may have multiple sources (e.g. AB, CD, Internal) selected in your recorder trig, and to stop recording it’s different than recording one source! (OT quirk)

When recording one source with these settings:
RLEN: Max and TRIG ONE2
you just press that button once to stop recording.

However, when recording multiple sources at the same time (pressing 2/3 buttons at the same time or using a record trig), to stop it recording you have to press (any) one record button twice. (wut??)

This usually isn’t a problem as you usually press one REC button to record, but what has typically happened is that I set a record trig and instead of holding that trig and deselecting sources I just disable them in settings while leaving all 3 sources lit… this leads to the recording not stopping when pressing the button once, the behaviour in question.

2 separate examples to reproduce:

  1. Press REC2 and REC3 to record both sources.

  2. Set a record trig to record 2 or 3 sources simultaneously.

In either case, it will not stop recording on one press, or even pressing each of the buttons once. You have to press (any) one record button twice (even a button you didn’t record the source of, that stops the recording too).

Questions:
I thought a single press to stop recording was introduced in an update a couple years ago, why is it different when recording multiple sources? Can anyone reproduce this too?

Yes. Confirmed.

You also need to press twice if you record a single source and press a different button to stop it.

It happens with rec trigs and one shot rec trigs, even with 1 source.

wow, you’re right! e.g. you press REC2 to record that single source, then you can press REC1 (or REC3) twice to stop it (one press of the different button does not stop recording). Strange.

In addition, it ignores QREC settings in an odd way when doing this, e.g. (with QREC: PLEN) if you press another rec button twice before the end of the pattern like you say, it will continue to show recording “+” BUT record silence into the buffer from that point until the end of the pattern! How odd.

Glad I’ve ran this by you before maybe submitting a bug report. Btw elektron acknowledged my other bug about the stuck MIDI notes :+1:t2:

Yep don’t hesitate to report it !
I talked about it concerning one shot rec trigs (my use case) 7 years ago minimum…but nobody seemed to care about it.

IIRC with 2 button press before QREC timing it is ok (I used Track + Rec buttons, without QUICK REC option).

Could you elaborate or remind me more specifically?

… recorded silence from that point on for me in a quick test, but i didn’t test it clinically, it was a project with a lot of stuff going on already, but still odd.

This thread about the missing MIDI notes when p-locking the note param, you gave good feedback and told me to simplify the bug report:

Elektron responded and acknoledged it. :+1:t2:
